Deslauriers over Larsson? - Sabresfan-365
That's insane.
Deslauriers scored less, in more games than Foligno and Larsson.
And Foligno fights, and Larsson is gritty.

They aren't even the same type of player. Des is a very good 4th liner/Role player/Face puncher. Larsson is a #3 center who could slot up to 2 if there's an injury.
I'm not even really sure how to compare the two. |

I say buffalo finished 3rd from last an finally wins the lotto they lost the past few years. Matthews will look good with Eichel in a few years. Trust me I know what an inexperience team looks like. They will have their highs and lows, just depdns if goalie can stop the puck.

So Sam Reinhart was the best player in camp all weekend according to multiple reports (admittedly, I saw nothing). Pencil that guy into Rochester in October boys. |

To be fair, prospects camp means very little.
Mikhail Grigorenko looked like 2x the player Reinhart was last year.
Luke Adam looked great a couple times.
Usually players that are a little older do well.

Understood. My point, though, is that any time we talk about the opening night roster, it sounds like a foregone conclusion that Eichel is here (which it essentially is), and Reinhart is in Rochester. However, albeit it is a small sample size, every time Reinhart and Eichel have been on the same ice together, Reinhart has looked like the better player.
Ultimately, I believe Eichel will be the better player. In fact, I believe he eventually has to be in order for this team to be a championship one. Age is definitely a factor, and I'm not even predicting that Reinhart makes the team out of camp. I'm just more baffled at how this guy doesn't even seem to have a chance in many people's eyes. |

I think that is about as accurate as you can be ranking the 4
Larsson can step up to the second line for a stretch, same for Folingo but Folingo would make you cringe on the second line for more then a few games
Deslauriers is the perfect 4th liner IMO can move up to the third in a pinch
McCormick, nice knowing you

I think with the Hodgson buyout, and Grigorenko being moved, it's changed opinions (mine at least) as to whether Reinhart will be here.

Agreed. I love Deslauriers in his role.

At least with McGinn and Legwand, they are able to slot into a bottom 6 role.
Grigo and Hodgson had no place on those lines. Swapping those 4 and adding Reinhart is an improvement |

I agree
It will be interesting to see how the top 9 shake out, as they have many options.
I really see this team like the pens with crosby, malkin and staal except the Sabres really have 3 viable options for staals role (reinhart, girgens and larsson)
kane and moulson will have no excuses not to produce this season |

I think that depends on who gets put with the 18 year old.
Might be some growing pains |

There will definitely be growing pains. But Moulson did pretty well with Girgs as his center for most of the year, so it's not like he hasn't been in that kind of position before.
I love Girgensons and while he can slot into your top 6, he should by no means ever be the #1 center for any extended period of time. |

I agree, but I also think putting him on the 3rd line with lesser players is a waste of what he can potentially do.
I personally would like to see him on a line with Eichel and Kane
All three can skate, and all three are great at cycling the puck and playing a possession game. It also helps shelter Eichel because Girgensons can play at both ends |

with that line, Ennis or Reinhart is on the third line
not a problem mind you
special teams are going to be decent this year, esp if murray lands a d man |

I think with the amount of talent we currently have, the majority of the top 9 could essentially be a top 6 player. We just so happen to have a very good amount of depth right now. The only spot that's still a bit weak is RW, but one of the guys listed as C is going to have to shift there. There's just not enough room.
Basically when all is said and done, I think the way this team looks is very much like the team in 05-06 and 06-07 where you have 3 lines capable of putting up really good offensive numbers. |

Well your opening lines stink
McGinn is better than Foligno when healthy.
Reinhart should either be the 3rd line center or 2nd line RWer. IMO of course
The fact that Gionta is the captain means he won't be starting the season on the 4th line |

I think it's a coin toss, and that's being generous to McGinn. He isn't very talented
I don't think both rookies (Reinhart, Eichel) will start at center
And Gionta was relegated to 3rd and 4th line duties at times last season.
