Well his agent must know a good lawyer. The agent did in fact get him 10 million dollars on stroke of a pen.

He should be suspended. Driving drunk is not cool.
- Cheeseballin

I don't care. I want to see him in the home opener and it was probably his first offense. No one was hurt.

He didn't kill or hit a person so he'll be charged with fleeing the scene under the highway traffic act of ontario (less serious than criminal code) but it can still carry prison time. (this would be where that big ass signing bonus could help him)
- Sabresfan-365

I doubt he gets prison time.. Not worried about that. Worried about Sabres or NHL suspending him. The season is more important than getting suspended and hurting this team

Impaired driving not drunk driving. Not making excuses but there is a big difference.
- Stripes77

If he killed some one there is no difference in my eyes. You don't do either.

May be am overreaction but terminating his contract and making a firm example of him may go a long way to keeping the rest of your young ish players in line.

But it's more likely they wag their finger at him and tell him to promise not to do it again.

- Sabresfan-365

I dont think they do that, but they sure can be happy with him right now. The buyout proof contract probably pissed them off a bit, so IM sure they will be watching him very closely now

....

In most states, it's impossible to commit one without committing the other. You're arguing over semantics here. There is generally no legal difference between the two, but I don't know what they do in the wacky Harper North...

Now we just need Zadorov to do the same, then we can officially call this the new Hodgson-Kassian

The timing of it could not have been worse, just as things start to look up for the franchise.

Its not the DUI, its the leaving the scene of the accident. That complicates things and could be considered a criminal charge in Ontario

The fact that no one was hurt does not make it less of a crime.

1.) this didn't happen in the states
2.) Ontario law a dui is .05-.08
3.) the punishment in Ontario law is a 3 day suspension of your license and a fine.
4.) the bigger issue was him leaving the scene

yup, and do they consider that Dangerous Driving w/o Injury. That can be a criminal crime and be 6 months or somehow 5 years in Jail depending on circumstances

Let's be real here... Morally right or not. He's a hockey player he won't get any jail time. He will get a fine and maybe MAYBE community service... I'm more worried about the NHL suspending him then getting jail time.

chances are it all smooths itself out, but you never know these days with how hyper sensitive people are.

A good friend of mine is a cop in Hamilton. Anything like this for a first time offense and non injury is a slap on the wrist being him leaving and being a high profile person it will most likely be community service, a 30 day suspension and a bigger fine.

If the car can be easily and clearly traced back to him, then the only reason to leave the scene is because he was either high on drugs or had drugs on him. He figured a hit and run charge is a better charge than driving while impaired on whatever he was or being caught with possession of something.

Same poop happened to Jon Jones a few months ago.

I can see him getting some sort of "punishment" bc of him being a hockey player and how it seems that there is always an outrage about something when it comes to social media.

People are hyper sensitive to athletes getting unfair treatment, so I can see him getting a slight punishment to avoid the outragers

...Except driving drunk in Ontario is called impaired driving. Is there another tier for "driving drunk"? Like..what are you even arguing? Your point was that there is a "big difference" between driving impaired and driving drunk. I said there isn't. I just looked up the laws in Ontario. There is no difference.

What are you arguing?
