...Except driving drunk in Ontario is called impaired driving. Is there another tier for "driving drunk"? Like..what are you even arguing? Your point was that there is a "big difference" between driving impaired and driving drunk. I said there isn't. I just looked up the laws in Ontario. There is no difference.

What are you arguing?

DUI vs DWI.

The fact you said states. We don't know if was drugs or alcohol. C'mon. I'm a dumb troll but I'm better than you.

If the car can be easily and clearly traced back to him, then the only reason to leave the scene is because he was either high on drugs or had drugs on him. He figured a hit and run charge is a better charge than driving while impaired on whatever he was or being caught with possession of something.

Same poop happened to Jon Jones a few months ago.

Im leaning towards this as well.

What are you talking about? I said, legally, there is no difference between "driving impaired" and "driving drunk". Because there isn't. Not in the States or in Ontario. No one mentioned drugs but you. I feel like I'm in a twilight zone right now.

Yes. He was obviously drunk enough to hit a (frank)ing Tim Hortons, people will say anything to defend him because hey he is part of the Sabres.

Whether he was high or drunk or smoking rocks, my point was that, legally, there is no difference between driving impaired or driving drunk. He said there was a "big difference", and I told him in the States there wasn't. After actually looking up the laws in Ontario...there's no difference there either. It's semantics.

I just don't see the need to suspend a player for this offense. I don't care if it's O'Riley or Eichel or Chara or Lucic (Who I hate) Fine them and be done with it.

Yea over 80mg and that was after they found him. Who knows how long that period of time that was. He knew he was drunk and fled which makes it so much worse.

Could spin it and say that because of his BAC his judgement was compromised

Maybe just suspend them until they complete some sort of program. One that can obviously be done during the off-season. They have to have some sort of tangible consequent.

Maybe. I don't think a "well hey he left because he was impaired so he didn't know any better" will hold up in court. Having said that he will get away clean from all this, he has the money.

Doesn't really have to, as long as it raises some doubt/questions it will help his case. Really only get the full punishment when there's just no doubt at all. like if he had an irrational hatred of that specific tim hortons

I'm sure the NHL will just have him take their drug & alcohol abuse program and be done with it. I doubt he gets suspended.

A lot of moving pieces here... Hopefully he comes out upfront about it and profusely apologizes about it. Then we have to worry about the NHL and the Sabres suspending him. Hopefully it's taken care of quickly.

I think they have to be hard on him, but no suspension. It would be setting a precedent for the future that GMs might not want to set. We all know the NHLPA would fight it.

Wasnt big Buff arrested a couple seasons ago for drunk driving his boat? I don't think they did anything with him.

3-5 game suspension, just because he didnt hurt anyone is no excuse, easily could have, he is 24 he knows perfectly well the dangers of impaired driving

couple weeks ago a drunk driver drove into a store killing someone, so thankfully it didnt happen this time, it could have

boohoo you may not see him for the home opener, i think he needs to be suspended, anyone who does this needs to be

As long as the NHL doesn't suspend him this will (hopefully) by old news in a month. But knowing the troll Bettman and that bald nhl lottery draft A-Hole they will decide to make an example out of him
- bluengold12

If it is a first time offense, and no one was injured, seems like a substance abuse program and no suspension. Though I presume this is a felony, so who knows.

Meh... Suspend him for the entire preseason but I doubt NHL suspends him for a single game... What the Sabres decide to do is another story...

1.) this didn't happen in the states
2.) Ontario law a dui is .05-.08
3.) the punishment in Ontario law is a 3 day suspension of your license and a fine.
4.) the bigger issue was him leaving the scene

- Stripes77

Why only 3 days? That doesn't seem nearly harsh enough. 6 mons first time in the states, among other restrictions and requirements. Serious question.
