Good post. The key is to balance the punitive response to his actions, while also giving him the chance to grow as a person and perhaps even help others as a result.

I'm not saying it was okay with what he did. He is 24 years old. He made a mistake, it's up to him as a person to handle it the best way possible, and I am not talking just to save face. He needs to make a sincere effort to make sure this never happens again and to go out of his way to improve as a person. If he does that, keeps himself clean then all will be forgotten. He is lucky he didn't hurt anyone.

Think you hit it on the head with the Chicago part, and their Sharp trade didn't exactly clear that up.

I enjoyed spending time in their forums, seeing all the outrageous trades they were expecting for him, and then seeing him and one of their top (some say THE top D-prospect they had) get moved out for relatively lackluster pieces (especially in comparison to some of the trade scenarios, wish I could remember them..)

That's what I thought too but Strickland made it seem like it might have been a recent thing. If he turned it down because he'd rather live in Dallas which Strickland may have suggested then I say F him but we can't be sure I guess.

The Bills coach beating up kids (allegedly) is worse

He made a mistake, a mistake I am sure you will make at one point in your life (don't get caught better yet don't do it).

Most people have gotten behind the wheel when they shouldn't have. It's stupid and dangerous, but I am not going to chastise him for it when I know I have done it especially when I was his age.

They aren't going to suspend him and they certainly aren't going to suspend him 15 games.

Thanks for the long post dude. Definitely offered an angle not many of us can see for ourselves.

No problem man. I figured that's something we could use more of around here. There's too much regurgitating of second hand information imo. Unfortunately I chose to post it at a time not many people were up

If the Sabres not the NHL suspend him for 15 or more games I'll change my avatar for a month to something of your choosing

Find me a team that suspend a player for something like this?

A team not the NHL.

1 game suspension for Zadorov for breaking team rules doesn't count.

It would set a precedent and the Sabres aren't known for setting precedents, they are behind on the times on most things it seems.

Sabres posted a new article on Facebook (about variable ticket pricing). Surprised it's taken "so long" and no sign of O'Reilly jokes/memes

Honestly, I think the team should do some sort of suspension. Hell, they suspended Zadorov for a game because he was late getting back from the All Star break.

Hell, I saw some annoying antics (behind the play punches/dirty moves) by Ott when he was with Buffalo and I had hopes he would get discipline for it, so I'm all for punishment even of "my" own players.

And I agree that there's lots of room for this drunk driving mess to turn into positives (luckily) if he handles things right.

- stashu

Agreed. On the first point, thats one way i differentiate smart fans from the baying masses. The exception being the Orr sucker punch to Bourque... that was just magnificent

They suspended him for not notifying the team after numerous times of being late.

Totally different situation. Zad broke team rules.

If the NHL doesn't suspend him I am pretty sure the team wouldn't (actually I am wondering if the team could even suspend him according to the CBA)

Yes indeed. Everyone has done some dumb things at times, especially if under the influence. His response will show what he is truly made of.
