Why do I need to base it on what some other team MIGHT have offered?
That's a little too much speculation for me...
But let's say for example, the other offers were 5th round picks, & we have up a 4th to get him...
I don't consider that overpaying necessarily BC I think he's worth more than that
So even if a team offered TWO 1sts for him, I'd still say we overpaid
BC (IMO) a young goalie, with all his question marks (injury, last season struggles, etc) is DEFINITELY NOT worth a 1st... Esp in last year's draft
Btw... I DONT HATE THE TRADE AT ALL
I'm just saying a 1st was overpayment - jdfitz77
Jon Merrill, I believe plays for the Devils?!?!
If that is the case, we can swing a deal to get him, as the Devils need a lot of help everywhere! - Sabresfan88
Yep, there could be a deal to be made there
ESP if jersey struggles like most think & they decide it's time to bottom out & rebuild

NJ is in an issue where they have not reached the cap floor. They need celery on any trade they make.
If they are going to re-build. Why would they trade 23 year old John Merrill and not Andy Greene. But trading Greene removes 5MM and they would need 5MM+ back.

I'm with you there. Id rather tank for one in '16 - Sabresfan-365
I just don't see how giving up an asset for a guy that's not very good is a better option than just signing a guy that's not very good. There's FA out there that are probably better than Sbisa to be quite honest.
You can't move prospects that don't have established value yet. You mention Fasching.. his value is higher than JT's. Everyone else you mentioned are long term projects that would otherwise be trade throw ins at this point. Of course you'd rather trade worthless assets. Everyone would. But buying a new TV with some magic beans and pocket lint doesn't happen. - TheSabresTaco
Well you just said Fasching has more value, so how is that "magic beans?"
All 5 of those guys are good compatibles for Compher
Carrier is further along in development, prob with more scoring upside
Hurley was picked in the same round, same draft, a few picks apart
Karabacek & Cornel were also 2nd round picks, 1 yet later
Magic beans?
Hardly
Just guys I happen to like less than Compher
But that wouldn't be the same with every GM
You kind of made that point with Fasching already
Sheesh

Yup, would rather just hang on to the assets for now. Best bet is to wait it out till someone gets desperate and lowers the price like the isles did last year.

It's been said that originally Colorado wanted Risto and Bailey and somehow we talked them into Zadorov and Compher. Which way would you have preferred it to be? I'm pretty happy with how it turned out to be quite honest.
