Yea.
I think the Devils could be close to the bottom of the league this upcoming season.
There will definitely a deal to be had there.

Might not be for Merril, but I could see tem making moves
I'd love Santini from them
Was pissed when we drafted Hurley instead, ugh

It's been said that originally Colorado wanted Risto and Bailey and somehow we talked them into Zadorov and Compher. Which way would you have preferred it to be? I'm pretty happy with how it turned out to be quite honest.
- HonkFortheGoose

Isn't it conceivable that pick 21 instead of 31 changes that convo quite a bit
Of course they were gonna ask for the moon, why wouldn't they

If u were them, would u rather have Compher + 31, or 21?
Maybe they still want Compher & 31,
But my guess is that they'd jump at 21 & let us take Compher off the table

Although it's all speculation,
I'm obv not in the room or anything

And I'll bet A LOT of different names were thrown around at times

I think you're putting way too much stock into picks that are literally only 10 apart from one another. It's not like it was a top 10 pick or a 2nd rounder.

For those of you who are high on Petersen, I'm going to copy and paste what I wrote on here a few days ago:

Petersen- Could potentially be the best of the three, but he has a major stylistic flaw. When players are entering the zone, Petersen c-cuts backwards following the play rather than shuffling around the crease like you are supposed to. I simply cannot believe no coach at Notre Dame or anyone he went to tried to fix this problem. Basically by c-cutting, following the play the goalie does not have his feet square to the shooter. He then compensates by rotating his torso so that half is square. The effect of this causes the goalie to be off balance and appear like he is fighting the puck when making saves and giving up worse rebounds. Having said this, he gets away with it at the college level because he still has really good reactions and is an incredible skater(the best of the 3). At the pro level guys will be able to hit the corners that his style leaves open from longer ranges and he won't have the Notre Dame defense to take care of those rebounds. Now outside of that he is an incredible goalie, moving laterally very quickly and not many pucks get by him in tight.

Ok, I can agree with most of that
But it still doesn't mean that some could project Karabacek as a 2nd/3rd liner & Compher as a 4th
Regardless of their stage of development,
I'd think most GMs are looking 5years down the line when they trade for 19-20 year olds

And I'd much rather have Compher than Fasching
His skating really bothers me, it's bad
Sabres should hire whoever has been working with Bailey to work with Fasching

Bailey (BC of skating) went from a pick I was on the fence about, to my TOP Sabres prospect
He looked REALLY good, and FAST on Thursday, esp for a guy his size

- jdfitz77

I think this is where the disconnect is. It's not really about projections as much as it is about risks. All prospects are investments. Some you know will pay out, but most you can't be 100% certain.

If you've got a guy who most see as "highly likely" to make a contribution to the NHL level, despite position or line potential, that guy can be worth more to you than a guy that is "somewhat likely" to make a more offensive contribution to the NHL level. There's so many variables involved in targeting prospects, like likelihood of potential success, position, role, offensive talent, two way ability, positional vacancies now and future for NHL team etc.

This team considered Compher as expendable because of Reinhart, Eichel and ROR. Yes, he's highly likely going to become a good checking line piece, but this team is busting at the seams with that capability. He's a quality prospect with a low offensive ceiling and probably 2nd line ceiling, which is why he was included.

honestly if they do not get zidlicky or make a trade, mccabe makes the team for second team pp IMO
- homiedclown

I think McCabe starts in Rochester either way
Just like they did with Pysyk
Smart move to do that IMO too

Our best option at this point is to move a right hand shot to the left. Maybe we can get Franson on the cheap, seeing as he's still a free agent

Not much of a baseball fan anymore (but was a HUGE fan as a kid - moreso than hockey), but I just watched MLB's picks for the "Franchise Four" - the 4 faces of each franchise.

I found it funny that Nolan Ryan was on 3 of the teams in the video. Vlad Guerrero also made two teams which was weird. Barry Bonds showing up was a surprise, especially since none of the other steroid people were (McGwire, A-rod, Canseco).

mhp, who would you pick as the 4 for your team - just wondering if yours would be different than what they chose, especially since there was 1 they chose that I didn't like at all.

Maybe
Deep talented draft though
It's quite conceivable they have been high on someone like Konecny
I was
No way he's there at 31
At 21, there was a chance. And it did work out that way.

Jack Eichel, who was selected No. 2 in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, will not be attending the United States national junior evaluation camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Aug. 1-8.

Eichel was one of 11 players invited to camp who represented the United States at the 2015 WJC in Montreal and Toronto. Eichel, who served as captain for his country, had one goal and four points in five games. He signed an entry-level contract with the Sabres on July 1.

I'm sure Jack has a lot going on with Buffalo in terms of development camp and preparing for the NHL season," U.S. national junior team general manager Jim Johannson told NHL.com.

Johannson also confirmed that all other NHL-signed players invited to camp are expected to be present, including defenseman Noah Hanifin (Carolina Hurricanes) and center Dylan Larkin (Detroit Red Wings).

All this makes sense to me
Thursday, I thought he moved great... Esp for a big guy...
Didn't let one shot past him, But he was having all kinds of trouble with rebounds
I couldn't understand it
What u said sheds light on it though
Not so much his agility, or quickness... But technique in HOW he moves
Good post sir
Hopefully he can work on that, BC he is big & talented
Those rebounds really stuck out to me too though

Huh?
It's about risk AND projection
Especially when you're talking about the 4th raking piece you're getting back in a trade
At that point,
It's very conceivable that a GM would take a guy he sees as a 25% chance to be a 2nd liner vs a guy he sees as a 75% chance to be a 4th liner

Clearly the AVs wanted Compher, or Murray wanted to get rid of him...
Or BOTH

heck, maybe the AVs asked for Fasching or Karabacek & settled for Murray's offer of Compher?
Obv... We don't know

But u saying Compher has value & a guy picked in the 2nd round last year doesn't sounds ridiculous to me
Esp when JT had a down season last year

Right. Fasching and Compher have shown that they will likely have a level of success at the NHL level already. The rest of those guys have not yet shown the ability to play in the NHL yet because they're more or less raw 'skill' guys. Karabacek is actually quite talented, his knock is inconsistency.. same with Cornel. Hurley is a very quality play maker that's just going to need to physically develop and get better in his own zone. So yeah, those 3 are all projects. Despite their draft position, as mentioned previously.
- TheSabresTaco

I have a cool video of the 3 on 3 scrimmage where Karabacek does a spin-o-rama to beat the defender and goes in and scores. I'm not sure how to post it however

Coller's article about O'Reilly being punished.

http://www.wgr550.com/Sab...yan-O-Reilly-pun/21750881

A snippet from it:

And then it took only a few weeks for O’Reilly to let Western New Yorkers down. If the facts hold true to the initial police report, the newest Sabre was reckless, foolish, selfish, immature, stupid, negligent, thoughtless, irresponsible and, in all honesty, a pretty poor new member of our community (even if it happened in Canada).

Not everyone will admit that, of course. There ain’t no rationalization like sports fan rationalization.

“Lots of guys have done it.”

“It’s not like he killed anyone.”

More like thank goodness he didn’t kill anyone.
