To bring it back to hockey...
Who's on the Sabres Mount Rushmore?
Is it as simple as the French Connection + Hasek?
Any arguments to replace Any of them? |
|
|
|
I haven't looked at what they have in their system...
But they can rebuild while still trading young players
It seems like they're trying to revamp their image & be more offensive, so maybe trade some defense for some offense?
Larsson + a Carrier & another forward prospect or pick?
Giving up one good asset, for multiple assets is done quite often - jdfitz77
I didn't go by what you stated but by what the Avs wanted and what we could afford to trade. I presonnally do not lament the loss of Compher one bit. Maybe I'll be wrong, but we'll see. |

10 as OF/DH - dadeadhead
That's about how I remembered
KNOcks him down the list considerably IMO
I'd put Yount behind Trammell & Larkin BC of it |

I think the fact that we got a guy that pretty much plays the same type of game as Compher but is a few years older and already an established NHL player makes it kind of a moot point anyway. |

If the Braves weren't your favorite team would he? - jochfr
Being from Buffalo and a sports history buff, yes.
Warren Spahn is one of the greatest pitchers of all time.
At 42 yrs old he went 23-7
Won the Cy Young once but finnished 2nd 3 times (at a time when only one award was given)
Had 2 no hitter (At age 39 and 40)
"Facing the San Francisco Giants, the 42-year-old Spahn became locked into a storied pitchers' duel with 25-year-old Juan Marichal. The score was still 0–0 after more than four hours when Willie Mays hit a game-winning solo home run off Spahn with one out in the bottom of the 16th inning. Marichal's manager, Alvin Dark, visited the mound in the 9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, and 14th innings, and was talked out of removing Marichal each time. During the 14th-inning visit, Marichal told Dark, "Do you see that man pitching for the other side? Do you know that man is 42 years old? I'm only 25. If that man is on the mound, nobody is going to take me out of here." Marichal ended up throwing 227 pitches in the complete game 1–0 win, while Spahn threw 201 in the loss, allowing nine hits and one walk. Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell, who was in attendance that night, said of Spahn, "He ought to will his body to medical science.""

Of course, we could "afford" to trade Compher
I'd have rather moved at least 5 other comparable prospects though
I'm not hating the trade BC of it,
But I do think Vompher will end up being a solid player for them for a long time |

Perhaps Murray would have rathered that as well. But it's very likely that Colorado didn't want one of them.
Besides, if they're comparable, what difference does it make? |

I think Chipper is the obv guy that gets replaced there
Some would argue Rickey as well,
But he's EASILY the best lead off hitter of all-time, and stolen base king (most would say)...
So I can see him there
Prob a bunch of other outfielders in the convo with Griffey, jr
Piazza prob get replace by Bench too. Piazza just couldn't throw guys out for about half his career. Could make a case for Pudge, BC of how good he was defensively.

DH IMO would be Frank Thomas.
On a side note if there was a what if player that player would be Bo Jackson. |

Personal preference
For example, I like Compher better than Fasching even though Fasching has more upside |

Agreed you can argue a lot of those, but Piazza was one of my favorite players growing up. So personally for me, he stays.
Chipper jones was the reason i played/play 3rd base.
Ricky Henderson is just a bad ass arrognat SOB.
Omar Vizquel was one of my favorites too, but he cant replace Ripken. |

But who did the Avs want? It takes two to tango, just because you would rather deal 5 other prospects doesn't mean the Avs wanted them. Anyway, I made the Compher call so let's get back to that |

Not much of a baseball fan anymore (but was a HUGE fan as a kid - moreso than hockey), but I just watched MLB's picks for the "Franchise Four" - the 4 faces of each franchise.
I found it funny that Nolan Ryan was on 3 of the teams in the video. Vlad Guerrero also made two teams which was weird. Barry Bonds showing up was a surprise, especially since none of the other steroid people were (McGwire, A-rod, Canseco).
mhp, who would you pick as the 4 for your team - just wondering if yours would be different than what they chose, especially since there was 1 they chose that I didn't like at all. - stashu
Sorry I'm a bit late on this stash but yes, you are right I'm an avid Red Sox fan.
My franchise 4 in Sox history would be Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Carlton Fisk, Carl Yasztremski and Jim Rice.
