Im not 100% sure who he faced in the east conference. I last remember blysma losing to julien.
Coach Q lost in 2011 yes but I said that nucks up 3-0 coaxh q goes 3 straight on us and it goes to OT I game 7. Burrows pulled off the win to save the day.
Point was every year for 3 years get up 2-0 2-0 & 3-0 & still manage to lose series or go go 7 games. He gets outcoached on a regular basis and learns nothing.
Likable guy though. Love to have beers with him. |

AV beat philly in round one and Pitt in round 2 ...coming back from down 3-1 in that series ..... He must have adapted in that one

Possibly.....but I suspect it to be his assistants. In 2011 gillis hired newel brown who was a strategist from cup winnig teams. Made a difference |

You can't give AV any credit here. Apparently he is a terrible coach who basically Mr. Magoo'd his way to two consecutive President's Trophies and a Stanley Cup final. What a chump. |

I know you were not posting over the Nonis and Gillis era. I've been posting here since Burke tho. Some funny things happen with the posters here.
When Gillis was putting us in this position with the contracts and trading away picks, some(very few) people were worried. The Gillis defenders(most) denied it was going to be a problem..."Bi-Polars", "Sky is Falling" or "Debbi Downer" like bloated would call me.... Now I see some of those same people in denial that it all got in the way of the rebuilding they are now demanding and it's the new guys fault of course. He signed Miller and screwed them.
The tears will dry up in a couple of seasons when the Sedins and Miller are gone. Then the new tears will be the coach who's ruining our youth and so on.... like when he was getting outplayed in the playoffs they never gave him a chance of making... then betrayed them when Hartley looked like he had decades of NHL experience. Go figure. Who would have thunk Hartley would outplay a rookie...
There will be time to hate the GM's and coaches when they cant hide from their mistakes. It's just too fkn early for that.... - boonerbuck
Ya well said.
I have only been posting for less than a year but I have been reading for quite awhile. It's baffling how posters are turning on Benning/WD and TL. God, they have only been on the job for a year let's give them some time. To me, Benning made bold moves withy Vrbata, Miller and Dorsett. WD got a non-playoff team in the post season and was not nominated for the Jack Adams. Every bit as impactful to this club as Hartley has been to the Flames. And Linden has done a decent job at PR so far...not nearly as bad as some have made it out to be.
Now that the rebuild is 'kinda' in full swing people are seemingly panicking. Most knew it was coming and are smart enough to realise the impact it will have on the club...so it's confusing to see some of the reactions. |

20 year NHL coach vrs a 0 year NHL coach. Concerning? If you hire a rookie coach, obviously you are not concerned about it. Are you still a believer that they should have hired a coach for a big play off push???? If not, nothing to be concerned about... thats like saying Toewes outplaying Virtanen in his rookie season would be concerning.
It's funny how concerned people were with hiring the coach who had no experience and he comes out of the season with 101 points and home ice advantage. It was fresh seeing our coach rolling 4 lines the way he did. In the future, this will play a big part in our youth developing at a healthy rate. - boonerbuck

Yes but till no cup for AV. He's a great coach but for some reason there is always 1 series in the playoffs where he fades out. Not sure how he is gonna get past it. 2010 he got schooled by Quenville then got him back in 2011 only to be outcoached by Julien in the final...plus some help from Bettmans boys. 2012 playoffs Sutter took AV to school again which subsequently led to his firing. Sutter then again gets AV in the SCF when the Rangers play LA. Rangers/Tampa series...there is always a series where AV can't seemingly adjust. |

Yes and ill say it again....its all about coaching in the playoffs. I never changed what I said. Read again - SMBDragon
I have an idea...as we all believe WD is a good coach in the regular season why don't we keep him and then bring back Torts. wD gets us to the playoffs and then our Assistant coach (torts) switched to head coach in the playoffs while Willie rides the pine. torts after all won a Stanley Cup so he must be an exceptional playoff coach only. Can this solution put this issue to bed? |

Are we done with the Benning, TL, and WD circle jerk? Have some of you got that out of your system? Good. How hopefully we can allow time for some different opinions. |

I wasn't trying to be all pro AV....more trying to poke holes in the dragons statements from last night ...seeing how he has apparently played the game and won championships he seemed to know more than everyone else on here
I still argue that you need the horses no matter how good a coach you are |

Over the last few seasons, I have said we needed a 2nd line finisher and more grit in the lineup. JB brought in Vrbata, not my first choice, but has worked out as well as any could have hoped. He also brought in Dorsett, who brought some energy and grit and a good work ethic to the bottom 6.
This summer he added Prust. More of what we were lacking as was exposed in the Calgary series and at times last year playing against some of our heavy opponents.
We just need a young quality top 2 dman and we are set. just have to keep our picks and replenishing our system to continue building depth with good prospects.
Do I like all the moves JB has made? No. But don't really know what the alternatives were, what was actually being offered by other teams. Wanted more for Lack, but JB says he got the player he was targeting anyway...
Hoping for another move or two to ensure opportunity for a prospect to make the team but they have to be ready and outright earn it.
WD has a good coaching foundation but is learning the NHL on the fly. TL is just a mouthpiece.
JB is learning how to and how not to make deals.

But set for what? A first round exit... again?
I really hope that the canucks development system has been improved because if JB and crew are constantly picking in the 15-20 spot every year their development coaches will have to work miracles to get them the core they need to compete for a cup. |

Do you think we will make the playoffs every season for the next 5 or so years? I don't, and we will be better off when we miss, we will get those better picks, maybe not top 3, but lower than late teens...
I'm okay with the direction we are headed. Some good prospects with JV, BB, McCann, Cassels, Shinkaruk and Gaunce. Maybe Subban will turn into a better Weber?
As soon as we get passed some of these ntc's, options open up.

I don't want them to make the playoffs. No benefit to anyone other than the owner and I don't give a poop about the owner.
We have some good prospects but nothing to build a team around (not yet anyway). If the team was able to get a top three pick in the next couple of drafts then they might be able to find that 'cornerstone' prospect.
I know a lot of folks on here disagree with my approach but I want this team to get that damn cup. The drought is starting to become ridiculous. |
