I've been on the the Lack over Miller bandwagon since, Miller was signed but I think the debate was always Lack vs Markstrom for mgmt, and choose Markstrom.
I also think that is the wrong choice but can see why the younger goalie could be preferable. - belcherbd
I still don't understand the miller signing.
And nobody give me this poop that the veteran players requested it so JB had to find a legit starter. That's horsepoop. |

Carolina is only 6 million above the floor anyways, I'm sure they could handle retaining some salary. - belcherbd
Maybe later when somebody gets desperate for a goalie. |

I think it is legit to say he needed to bring some stability to net but the idea that he had to pay 18 million and give a NTC is what is hard to understand. |

There was no reason to sign him. Everyone and their dog knew he wasn't worth anywhere close to what he got. |

Reading Carol's blog about Eddie being shaky in the playoffs. I had no issue with him being pulled in the 2nd to last playoff game, thought he should have gotten the start for the last game.
Also, was wondering if the shaky Lack asked management, at the exit interviews, asked for a better defence and more run support?
If Lack could have garnered a higher pick, maybe he could have garnered an additional later round pick if they were dealing with Edmonton?
If you choose to move Lack because you think he isn't a number 1, just get the best deal possible. Sounds like they were hedging their bets.
If management is worried about attendance, Eddie playing in the same division might help sell tickets when we play against those teams. |

Ya me either.
I think after watching jb for awhile ive come to see he just had his guys jn mind before he even got here. Same with bartkowski.
Remember that despite being a fan favorite lack waited like 22 games or something like that to start a single game. They never wanted him, from the start of the season for whatever reason.
I have a possible reason why...and thats just wondering if his aloof nature made him not be taken seriously and wanted someone with deep focus. Kinda makes sense especially if you look at it from the start of the season when they dont even know him yet.

JB wanted Miller. Bottom line. Lack was never the goalie he was going to roll with. Miller is not a 6 million dollar upgrade on Lack but he is an upgrade. People can throw statistics all they want. Miller is better. |

Lack needs to be more focused, professional and detail orientated like JB. |

Ryan Miller Checked out back when he was embarrassed in St Louis.
The guy is on the money making train now.
Expect a solid year from him in 16/17, which is his contract year. |

But as I said above, why need a better goalie during a rebuild? Use Lack as your transition goalie through the rebuild. Cheaper and younger and has a silly personality that would serve him well during the really, really bad times.
Why does Miller want to be a goalie for a rebuilding team? You would think he would want to go to a contender at such a late stage in his career. I guess the money JB through at him was too hard to resist. |

Nobody in management actually stated this was gunna be a full rebuild and what Classic stated above about miller in it for the money is pretty accurate. |

Ya hes too much the big kid still. Pretty sure linden and jb couldn't get past that.
But who cares if the on ice product is good. I always found lack was never out of position. Hes exceptional that way.
But the perspective we share sure explains miller and keeping markstrom too
Although miller for 2 years max not 3 |

EDM rebuild ...no stability in net
Cgy rebuild ...stability
Having someone who is capable of covering up young players mistakes makes them seem not as bad
Also I think the way Eddie lack finished the season after the Luongo trade was more than reason enough to get a proven vet. I would put some of the blame on the team but Lack did very little to help his cause then...3 years and 18 million may have been a head scratcher but something had to be done |

So the flames make the playoffs so their rebuild is a success? I would give it another season or two before making that claim. |

Retool, reload. They don't want to tank, they want to stay competitive and leave it to scouting to find the gems in the middle of the 1st round.
As long as JB holds onto his picks, it isn't a bad plan, just have to stay the course. Chances are we may see another top 10 pick if we miss the playoffs once or twice over the next 5 years. |

Exactly, whether or not they will be successful is another story but they have been very clear with what their goals are and TBH, I much prefer a team that is always looking to be competitive.
I will accuse this mgmt of many things but not tanking or being disingenuous with what their plans are, which I do respect. |

I'm not saying the rebuild is over and it's a success ...just saying stability in net helps things go a lot better. are you saying that a teams stability in net has zero implications on how players can develop ? |
