I wouldn't take an unhealthy player regardless of potential. It's too much of a risk.
Do you think the Portland Trailblazers regret taking Sam Bowie? - PLindbergh31

Bro, Sixers need to go out and trade for an elite player then sign two elite players. It's so simple |

Reminds me of what Barkley said about the Sixers, soon after he was traded. He was asked about the Sixers chances and he said that they were two players away from a championship. Doctor J and Wilt Chamberlain |

its a shame that the league and the cap is the way it is, but honestly look around the league at all the teams that are LEGIT contenders. They ALL have superstars that they drafted at the very top of the draft.
I hate tanking too, but in the NBA, unless you build around high draft picks, you will be in no man's land

Doc and Wilt were never on the team together.
Unless you mean Doc and Chuck, after they traded Moses for the white guy with bad knees, because Harold Katz was a (frank)ing moron |

I'm with you, you need superstars to win a title. Look at Atlanta. Good team, plays well, no superstars, gets knocked out in playoffs. |

Nobody should ever be mad at an NBA team tanking because like you said it's the only sure fire way to get players who can be that star players you need.

yeah. its just a different animal than the other sports. I mean it obviously helps in hockey to have studs drafted at the top of the draft, but it's so much more about cohesion and coaching and the system. I mean Pitt has had 2 of the top 2 players in the world and hasn't sniffed a Cup in six years. |

It's also about getting assets to trade. Mid first round picks hold little value but high first round picks hold a lot of value. Sixers are in a better position to make a trade than if they had a bunch of average players |

Well unless it's Edmonton and you get top picks & keep changing coaches. It just sends every players head spining |

And at some point they need to go forward, getting assets are good but if you don't make good use of them then what's the point |

Plus teams in the NHL, mlb and NFL routinely find all stars in he middle of the first round and beyond. It's much more rare in basketball |

I'm not even mad at the sabres. You do what you have to do. The pens are just pathetic. Look at them. 2 freaking superstars one a generational talent and still the team is up for sale |

Understood. It sucks that Embiid was hurt. He was clearly the best value pick, and if he does get healthy, he could be an absolute monster. Hinkie has had little choice but to go BPA and stockpile assets for now.
He could have built a Hawks-like team out of the pieces like Holliday, Daniels, etc. But to win, he knows you need superstars. He's got two potential ones in Embiid and Okafor, and a potential Chris Bosh like third wheel in Noel. If Stauskas can find his groove, he could be a nice piece of the puzzle, too.
They're also going to have a poopload of first rounders coming in that they can use to stockpile more talent or potentially flip for an established guy. |
