Exactly, no guarantee of reward for tanking.
If the leafs were going to tank...they should have done it this year....they f'd that up.
They wont be a playoff team, but if they are trying every night, playing the systems and executing, building a winning attitude...then its progress.

There's a nagging doubt though in the back of my mind. Every year on paper looks like other teams got better, etc.

But there's always some unforeseen movement in the standings. Some team just flops for whatever reason (ie. Kings and Bruins missing the playoffs last year).

I hearken back to Montreal in 2012 as well. No way they should have finished 3rd last, with playoff appearances the year before and after.

Weird poop can happen, and you never know. I see the Habs and Bolts on top of the division, but it will be a dogfight between the rest of the teams for the last spot.

Reimer is nowhere close to being the man....and Bernier still has a ways to go. Even then he wont be close to a Price.

i think Buffalo is going to be absolutely terrible again. Florida... i dunno. every year it's the same story... they've had the best prospects in hockey for what seems like a decade and they're mediocre each and every year. Bruins i see battling for a WC spot. and i just don't see the Leafs being a serious playoff contender yet. to me, Detroit has the fewest questions. good special teams, should get good goaltending... that's usually enough. i know they have a new coach but it doesn't sound like there will be any major systemic changes to their game.

just curious... why were they a 100-point playoff team the year before last, when he wasn't even nominated for the Vezina? and why did they win the division the year before that when he posted a .905 save percentage and no one wanted him within 1000 miles of Sochi going into the next season?

they did add Green and B Richards who COULD be good for them..

Habs have stability throughout, just missing some scoring but Price can make up for it.
