Sorry but that will happen next yr...

Everyone wanting a good yr from guys like Kadri/Holland/gardiner/komo/Jvr etc...

Guess what?..if this happens the leafs will be nowhere near the bottom of the league..

Babcock will get this team playing..

I hear what you're saying - some hard working types up front with Babcock could lead to more wins then expected - but then I remember the D. Phew ….

The coach part....well it better be for 50mil...

or is Babcock only great with great players??....

- Fruitcakenipple

I don't think you really "build" the coaching position. I agree this team could end up floating around 8th-10th place but it is definitely NOT because they are "well built" in any way, shape or form.

If we are competing for playoff spots, some vets will get moved at the trade deadline, due to them playing far better. Win, win.

Reimer did it for 35 games in a season where the leafs were scoring a poop ton of goals. Take the goggles off and just watch the two play, there's no way you can compare the two. Bernier's a great tender, I know your a hater so I won't beat this to death again with you. Bernier will be solid again this year, can't wait to watch em.
- iTOLDu

2 seasons... Oh I guess since Bernier is better than Reimer they should give him a huge contract, makes sense.... Bernier starting more games and being an actual starter he loses focus and can't handle. He's a good backup...

A la Buffalo eh?

"Enroth is starting to play too well. TRADE HIM! Throw that 6'6 Bag of sand in net!"

(I bet they panicked a little when Lindback was actually playing OK )

I think for 2 years.. JMO Get max return for the players that may be able to help other teams.. The more youth the better.

For what it's worth:

Had dinner on the weekend with a WBS Penguin player who was on the roster last season - he is of the opinion that Harrington will have a long "top-4" d-man NHL career and provide a ton of leadership - not to be pigeon-holed into a purely shutdown d-man either...has some good puck skills and can contribute effectively on special teams.

While he had limited time with Kapanen, he says his skill level is off the charts and with at least 1, likely 2 full AHL seasons under his belt he'll be a legit top-6 sniper at the NHL level. Fast, works hard and is strong...by that timeline he'll be 20 in his first season as a Leaf if they are patient.

I believe that Hunter really wanted Harrington for those exact reasons--He was big on him.

as for Kapanen, who still only turns 19 next week, has so much potential and is in-fact a top-end prospect. He is 2-3 years away. I agree, playing 2 seasons in the AHL will be so helpful to his game. I see top six forward in this promising winger.

Point is, you need good players to win games. No matter who the coach is.

He did have a lot of injuries the last few years to the lineup, but also, Detroit isn't that good, he coaches for OT, always has, then gets a mediocre team into the playoffs the last couple...

Zetterberg and Datsyuk aren't getting any younger either.

I think he ran out of there before everything fell apart. Can't blame him either.

We had one of those a few weeks ago.

The only players I care for on the roster anymore who I think are/will be above average are Rielly and Kadri.

I liked JVR up until last season but he could still win me back if he shows SOME effort this year and does less than 12 between the legs spin moves from beside the net per game.

Ya, they've milked those guys for a lot of years, but it's at the point they really outta find a way to move someone like Franzen, try and turn the roster over. I get PD and HZ will be hanging in the rafters, but anyone they can flip they should do it...
