I may well be wrong Carol I think Kenins is actually exempt until one more year or until he plays 35 more games.
He signed as a 22 year old and has either 3 years from then or 70 games played, he has played 35 games so far.
I also noticed that you had not included Grenier who believe will need to pass through waivers.
He signed as a 20 year old and it has now been 3 years since that first contract so he will have to pass through waivers.
I have found this chart that is very useful to visualize the waiver process, the chart is halfway down the page under the title exemptions.

You may be right on Kenins.
The Wikipedia chart is the same as the one that appears in the CBA, except they've said "Age at Which First Contract Signed" instead of just "Age."
I was reading the CBA chart based on a player's current age, then counting backwards through the years they've already played. If that's correct, then Kenins is waiver eligible. If he gets three years of exemption because he first signed at 22, then you're right, he should be exempt for the first part of next season.
I'm seeing both interpretations in other articles floating around. Will have to dig deeper for confirmation.
As for Alex Grenier, yes, I should have included him, and I believe you're right. He's 23 and has three seasons of minor-league hockey under his belt, so I believe he will also be subject to waivers.

I've done the same thing the last couple of weeks trying to figure out the waiver status of specifically those two as I see they are the most likely 13th forwards as I see it. I have also seen opinions of both ways.
I emailed Scott Cullen of TSN for some confirmation but have not yet received a response. He is usually pretty knowledgeable of these things and has responded to previous emails I have sent. I will let you know if/when he gets back to me.

Alexandre Grenier:
Born: September 5, 1991 Laval, Canada
Tuesday, 04.30.2013 / 10:54 AM PT / News
Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed right wing Alexandre Grenier to an entry-level contract.
Grenier was 21 (not 20) when he signed his entry level contract.
I don't think he is subject to waivers this year. |

Thanks for this.
I think the key point here is that he didn't sign till before the 2013-14 season, which is only two years ago. He did play one year in the minors before that, but it wouldn't have been on an NHL contract.
So yes, he should have one year of eligibility to go! I will make the edit. |

Good find but he still has had 3 years of hockey since that contract, so he might still be eligible......20, 21, 22, and 23 year age of signed contract get 3 years but different amounts of minimum games played ranging from 60-160 depending on the age. |

Linden denying they talked to anyone about trading Higgins. Say's,,, "don't know where these rumors started".
I have to admit, the rumor sounded pretty weak. I'm surprised they even addressed it. Maybe they felt that the rumor that had Linden saying "Higgins was untradable" had to be stamped out?

in terms of PR "fires," i agree with you that i'm surprised he even addressed it.
but to say "don't know where these rumours started," seems pretty weak. weak considering that the person who started this rumour provided his name and said he was told by linden himself in a private conversation after the town hall. unlike most rumours, we actually know where this one started.
at the end of the day, i think it's a really small issue. addressing it just seems to be an overreaction to me. they should be exploring trades/roster moves for almost every player. to find out that they actually are exploring moves/trades/signings shouldn't be a surprise to anyone (fan or player). |

I didn't think it made much sense either but whether it was true or not of course they will deny it.
The hardest part to swallow was the part about his contract being untradeable.....
at 2.5 Higgins is at or below market value. |

Exactly. Linden saying Higgins is untradable makes no sense at all. At 2.5 he's a good 3rd liner and one of the better PK specialists. He will also win you a couple of games in the shoot out and the contract is only two seasons... how hard would that be to move if you are not holding out for a home run?

i don't get why (management or fan or player) would be surprised/shocked/angry/upset at management doing their job.
management (of any team) should be open to discussing any trade etc. doesn't mean that a deal gets consummated or even gets beyond tire kicking.
i don't get why fans/people get upset about talks/negotiations. i'm sure that lots of names get brought up in lots of trade discussions. doesn't mean that a deal is/was close. doesn't mean that a team doesn't value said player.
i'm surprised that TL would address it rather than put out the generic "we explore any transaction that will improve our team but don't want to comment on rumours b/c in this city, rumours are always flying around." |

Benning certainly doesn't seem to be the type to hold out for a home run, perhaps the so called rumour was referring to Higgins NTC........

I don't think Higgins NTC is going to be in the way any more than Bieksa's or Garrison's etc... might be a move for next season. I'm sure they will work harder on moving this seasons expiring contracts.

If Benning is trying to hit a home run by trading Higgins then this whole organization is in a world of trouble.
Personally I think Higgins value will be at its highest at the TDL when teams will be looking for a depth players that can move up and down the line up, kill penalties and play a solid defensive game. |

Exactly. But I wonder, it thatbthe amount he makes or just the cap hit?

His salary and cap hit are the same. He signed 4 year 10 million deal worth paid 2.5 per year.
