I really don't remember anyone hating the MDZ for Klein trade.

I remember there were people who never heard of Klein, but for the most part I don't think there was anyone really upset about MDZ going at that point.

I was always a MDZ defender, but even I had enough at that point.

i was somewhat oppossed to trading MDZ, for fear of a low level return ... but once I saw we got Klien, I was quite pleasantly surprised, maybe a bit happy even.

Numbers wise, he seemed to have a good year in Hartford. Haven't really paid much attention to him, but curious to know what the book is on him. Do the Rangers consider him a legit prospect that could make the big club one day?

Why do I get the feeling the Rangers are cleaning house? Lots of 1 year deals for players, if they don't impress, seems like we could be making room for other prospects to have roster contracts. Maybe in anticipation of a big name trade off our roster later in the year or next summer that will bring in a bunch of picks and prospects?

I think Gorton just wants to see what these kids have before committing to longer term deals. He really doesn't know how Fast, Lindberg, Miller, and Etem will develop. And none of those kids are going to willingly sign 4-5+ year long term deals unless they get offered 3.5M per year or more.

I don't think it's cleaning house. Etam and Miller choose to accept their qualifiers, so they have all the motivation to have big years, we might have been able to give them 2 year bridge deals but it's clear we really didn't have the cap $ to give them more. I also would've preferred 2 year deals for them but it likely would've been at 300-500k extra a piece. Hopefully we'll see Groton be more proactive than Sather and sign Kreider and Hayes mid year to extensions.
