why does anyone think he will terminate? - vejim
It has to do with the idea that the guy wants to go out and get a regular shift.
Basically, his pride has to outweigh his desire to collect a paycheck for this to kick in. |

If he really believes he has some gas in the tank but won't get a chance to play in Philly cause the Flyers are just big meanies, then maybe he would terminate in order to play somewhere else. If not this summer, then next summer. |

Everyone has a point.
Right now I think he sees himself getting another shot with Hakstoll. Fresh start. Once camp is over, if he is informed he won't be an option and will sit as a scatch and not even be the first option if there is an injury, maybe then it sinks in.
Your right. He might not terminate. But if he is so proud of a player he might want to see what is out there and end on his terms instead of being a scratch and maybe only seeing 10 games |

Preseason is going to be as important for Vinny as it is for a prospect like Morin. He can't afford to coast thru it like a normal veteran. |

I hope that he chooses to terminate, but I think the unfortunate reality is a buyout after this season.

Sadly, we see this all the time in pro sports. The aging athlete who keeps trying to hang on when everyone else can clearly see that he has nothing left. - BiggE

If was going to terminate this summer, it would have already happened. But Lecavalier doesn't want to play beyond the 2016-17 season. So he basically has a choice between spending his remaining time struggling to find a role with the Flyers or trying to get a fresh start somewhere else. The trade interest in him in this summer is minimal.

I believ ed it for a few reasons.
1)He is still owed $21 million by Tampa, so money is not the over riding issue.
2)He wants to play, and if he knows that will not happen here, the only way he even has a chance to play is somewhere else.
3)The Flyers wont even think about buying him out until next season, so does he want to sit an entire year?
If money is his only motivation, then sure, he will collect a paycheck and sit in the press box for a season. Getting older, getting one more year closer to being too old. I simply cant believe that his pride, and his belief that he can still be a productive player, would allow him to do that. The only way he gets to play ANYWHERE, be it the NHL, Europe, or Russia, is to terminate.
I speculate the reason why it hasn't happen yet is because he still thinks he has a fair shot under the new coach. Once October rolls around and he is in the press box, he might change his mind. |

Part of that has to be contract related, right? For a cool million I'm sure there are teams that would be willing to take a one-year chance on him but I doubt the Flyers are willing to eat the remainder. |

If things gets off on the wrong foot w/ Hakstol, the situation could unravel pretty quickly for Vinny. Maybe he terminates out of frustration during the season. |

I would think his agent has to have something lined up for Vinny in order for things to get to that point.
It's one thing to say you're going to quit your job so you can get an opportunity elsewhere. It's quite another thing to actually get that opportunity elsewhere.
Vinny's best bet is to play in the preseason like it's the playoffs and hope someone with a need at center is watching. |

I know Vinny has alot of money but he knows his hockey skills have diminished and this is a business and we can all use more money |

I think Lecavalier is a player who is destined to be one of those players who had a strong career overall, but faded away with some bad years on the end that will stain his legacy. In my opinion, his back injury accelerated his decline. He was never a great skater to start with, and that injury made it even worse, to the point where he can't physically compete. Even last year, his ability to shoot the puck seemed to wane. As was said previously, I don't see him being good enough to play on a scoring line, and he is not effective away from the puck, even in his prime, to play as a role player. The only chance he really has to be even somewhat effective, is on the PP. |

Hopefully. But then I don't think the Flyers make any kind of deal where they retain salary or move an asset. That brings us back to termination.
As for the quitting your job part, Its like quitting your job hoping to get an opportunity elsewhere while collecting 21 million from another previous employer.
Option one, he has no opportunity.
Option two, he MIGHT have an opportunity.
Either way he is getting paid by someone, so may as well take the chance. |

If I were Hexy I would have bought him out. Stick it out this year and next with RJ
I don't think its a major difference buying him out this summer as opposed to next summer. I think it was one less year of 900k on the cap or something. |

Pretty much.
If the league played by IIHF rules and you could carry a few extra skaters into every game, maybe there would be a home for him somewhere. But with the increasing need to get full efficiency out of all 18-skaters... I'm not sure there are many team who could afford to carry a pure PP-specialist. |

What if he has a terrible camp? Maybe then they go to him and just let him know that he isn't an option even if there are injuries. He can sit in pressbox and collect checks or terminate and maybe he can find a deal somewhere. - J35Bacher
If you had the option of sitting around and collecting millions of dollars or taking a drastic pay cut to MAYBE make far fewer dollars, knowing that it's the last time in your life where you have the opportunity, which option would you take? |

If i was already owed 21 million by someone else, I would take the pay cut to play.

When/how do player agents collect on client contracts? If vinny terminates his deal will this cause his agent to miss out on money from the deal too? |

So you'd turn down the millions of dollars you're owed so that you can play for the veteran minimum? It's been my perception that people who make lots of money always want more money. And given that it's the last time in his life that he has that opportunity, I don't see it happening. |

I'm getting the 21 million. I want to play. I am a hockey player, not a press box concierge. I have millions in the bank and am owed millions more no matter what I do. I have only a few years left to be able to do what I love, I would rather be on the ice.

His agent could be feeding him some bs that he is still valued around the league and trade interest is there |
