Come on, man -- they didn't benefit from not having him the decade-plus where they missed the playoffs 10 times, either
It's fine to argue/disagree, but let's at least try to make the disagreements one where we are talking about the same things - AllInForFlyers
How are we not talking about the same thing. A full season is enough time to see some kind of effect. Nobody's saying they should've made a complete turnaround in one season based on an increase in the use of analytics, but there should be some progress. |

Adequate sample size usage there.
Jake Voracek once played a game without scoring a goal. Therefore, Jake Voracek has never scored a goal. - jmatchett383
Should've let you handle that one, saved myself some words |

Poor analogy. A full season is plenty to see if it's having an effect or not. We know that Voracek has scored goals in games previous to the game he once played without scoring a goal. - MJL
Edit: (frank) it, not worth it. |

The Leafs had 1 playoff year in 7 under Burke & Nonis, but Kyle Dubas & analytics ruined them. |

It didn't work one time for one bad team. It's all smoke and mirrors. |

Where was it stated that Dubas ruined the Maple Leafs? LOL What was asked is what progress has been made in a season, based on more of a focus on using analytics? Nobody is looking for a complete turnaround, but just some progress made based on more of a focus on using analytics? It's a reasonable question. |

Not making any stupid signings on July 1 and not drafting a Tyler Biggs in the 1st round is considered progress for them.
(ironically, the 1st part also pertains to the Flyers) |

I think it would be difficult to argue the Leafs aren't in a much better position to be successful in 2-3 years |

Not sure how you can look at their recent signings/picks and not say that they aren't compelled by what the #'s have stated all along -- you can't have too much puck skill/sense. |

Shanahan and Dubas spent a year reviewing the roster, coaches and front office and decided to rebuild the team and organization. If we are to judge them harshly because they didn't make "progress", then what does that say about Ron Hextall?
He took over a playoff team and promptly finished as the 7th worst team in the NHL.

Not sure how you can look at those recent signings and picks, and attribute those choices to analytics. Actual scouting is more likely responsible. Scouts look at skill level and hockey sense.
We just had the draft and there was a lot of interviews of scouts, draft pundits, etc. Didn't here too much about analytics. |

So Dubas is responsible for the players he didn't bring in performing poorly, but he has nothing to do with the direction and young talent brought in through the draft. Got it |
