The 20-year-old Finnish blueliner, who has already undergone two shoulder surgeries and beat a bout with cancer, has totaled 10 goals and 38 points in 98 games in parts of two NHL seasons. The Pens are counting upon him to play a big role in 2015-16, provided his shoulder holds up.


Doesn't sound like a guy who gets traded for Pysyk and Foligno.

Pysyk and Foligno is not enough to get Olli Maata.

20 year old D starting to come into his own is not going to get moved for a decent 3-4 D and Marcus Foligno.

If you think about it the deal is pretty fair but to get a player like Maata you would have to overpay so it's not going to happen.

Besides Pysyk plays his off side anyway.

Like I said, overvalue much. Just because he's on the top paring with a guy who's hurt every other game doesn't make him worth what is being talked about.

As discussed often here, Pysyk played all last year on the left side and prefers it there. He'll be on the 2nd pairing. Risto may move to the left to be 1st pairing with Bogo

Taking off the Sabres blinders they are both pretty comparable.

Both 20 year old Fins who are coming into their own. Both GM's see them as top pairing defensemen. Both have more offensive ability than they have shown but have gone through their growing pains. Both are great skaters and are very smart.

Correct but I am not complaining about the discussion. It is a good hockey discussion. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean it can't be discussed.

After the Lehner deal, I believe EVERYONE thinks they can get a 1st off of TM. I also think his willingness to deal firsts was a product of having three of them and a fully stocked prospect pool. Going forward I'd expect him to be a little more stingy with his 1sts.
