Adding about $11m in salary I'm guessing there and giving up prospects to get them, albeit probably not a lot |

Campbell played with Ekblad last year who did really well. I doubt they trade him now and mess up the kids mojo |

We don't need Campbell, we can sign Franson without giving up anything. |

I'm betting Pittsburgh or Boston get him. Plus I'm not paying more than 4.5 or 5 and for only 2 years. He wants 5 year deal.. |

Why does everyone want Franson? We don't need another right-handed D. I hope Murray holds out for a left-handed D in a trade. - Pierceme69
No clue. Play the kids and see what happens after camp. |

We don't need a right-handed shot D-man. I don't care what anyone says about guys switching sides. play guys where they should be and trade for a left-shot D. |

People make it sound like Franson is a crap player, 6'2" 215 lbs and very mobile and a good PP guy. The longer he goes unsigned the cheaper we can get him......... maybe. |

Our D is weak, no question. Since we're not a playoff team next year I see no reason to pay a guy like Franson 5+. I would prefer them to give guys like Pysyk and McCabe a chance. It probably won't happen and Murray will make a trade most likely.
If he goes that route, I thought of potentially 3 vets. Mark Stuart, Kyle Quincey or Mark Streit.
Stuart- Winnipeg has a log jam at D and have 10 d men signed. Stuart is 31 and has 3 more years left at a cap hit of $2.6M.
Quincey- had a solid year in Detroit last year and has one more year remaining at $4.25M. He's 29.
Streit- He's the old man of this group at 37. Still a point producing d man and has 2 more years at a cap hit of $5.250M.
Just some thoughts. I still would like to see McCabe earn a spot at camp. |

If we make an offer (not sure we have), I wouldn't go north of 4 on a 1 year contract. |

We have a Mark Stuart in Weber and I like Stuart, he's good with hits and blocked shots and is a stay at home D man IMO, we have enough of them.
I have no interest in Quincey and little in Streit.
I'll take Franson over any of them IMO. |

Some are complaining we have traded away to many young players or picks, we can sign Franson for nothing but money and not give up anything. Carlo is on a 1 year deal and can be moved so McCabe can play during the year and next. |

The Bruins are fools, they will give Franson 5 mill a year but not Hamilton ? the Pens don't have the money to sign him unless he takes a cheap 1 year deal. |

I'm not complaining. Really we only traded three young defenceman.
McNabb
Zadorov
Myers
Zadorov was a great trade
Myers while I didn't love it we did get a D back and a top line winger
The only one I've yet to fully get behind is McNabb trade. I like Deslauries a lot and hopefully Fasching can turn out but I did like McNabb quite a bit.
I think if Lehner plays well next year we can be in contention for the 8th spot if we get a defenceman. I know a lot on here fully don't expect us to contend but I believe we can providing Lehner plays up to stride and we acquire a defenceman. Franson at 2 years 10 million isn't terrible but I wouldn't want to go more than two years at 5 million. I'd prefer to trade a few mid round picks for a veteran guy who can play left side on our top four. No high end prospects but wouldn't be opposed to trading a guy like Cornel or Hurley along with a 3rd or 4th |

I'm not a fan of Lehner and I didn't mean you were complaining and maybe I shouldn't have used that word, difference of opinion as to who Murray trades is better. |

Yeah the Lehner trade selfishly dampened draft day for me. I know the term on lehner is great followed by the rfa status BUT I really liked/wanted Lack and he would have come much cheaper. There ended up being a lot of potentially great players who dropped to that #21 overall pick.
I have no issues with the Myers trade or Zadorov trade
The Faeshing trade, in retrospect, I wouldn't have done. We gave up a couple of 2nd rd picks in that too. In defense of gmtm, we did need some forward prospects in our system them |

I have no problem with anything Murray has done except the Lehner deal, I would have liked Lack or Ramo. |

Young, big offensive D men like him are worth that, the contracts given out to these young players is crazy but the going rate. 3 years 15 mill is fine by me for Franson, Weber will be gone so it will be ok. |

Yep and as we've talked about, we have absolutely no cap worries for a while, so 3/$15 isn't an issue if you like the player. |
