As I said earlier, I was one of the Leaf fans that said Kessel would not garner the type of return most expected mainly because of his contract. JVR will return a greater trade to Toronto then Kessel. If you think you can get a bargain contract that still has 3yrs of control on a 26yr old that has scored or been on pace to score approx 30 goals for the last serveral year and not give up a top prospect, then you really don't know what the value of hockey players are. You can't talk about prospects matching JVR in 1 to 2 yrs with any certainty. They are prospects that may and most likely will never do what JVR is doing. You do really realize most prospects do not go on to score 30 goals in the NHL, right?! The team trading the sure player for the hopeful player usually wins the trade when it's all said and done. JVR is not going to be traded for B and C prospects....I am not saying his is going to return Elite prospects but they are going to be highly rated. - Cooshie
So what you're saying is he won't get traded for B and C prospects but he won't get a return of A prospects either? So what should his return be? b+ prospects? I think the return for JVR will be similar to kessel, maybe slightly higher, but I think Toronto will wait a while before making the trade, hoping that his value increases. |

Mueller, nieto, wingels, jevpalovs. Easily better - sjsharksss
nieto and wingels = brouwer
mueller >> b-goalie prospect
jevpalovs = 3rd
So, a little better. Personally, I hope the leafs can do better than that. |

i'd think they could get a mid/low #1 and a nice prospect (mcdavid, hall, etc) |

When Kessel and JVR are playing for the Leafs - They are great! The return should be a top 6 forward, the best prospect, and a number 1 draft pick.
When Kessel and JVR are playing for Team USA - They suck! No wonder USA never wins anything. |

I differentiate between A and elite prospects.
Mueller is a B prospect, Bennett is an elite prospect and someone like Bowey or Vrana is an A prospect.
I could see Bowey or Vrana plus a 2nd for JVR...Like Tumbleweed said. |

I donno who or what they would trade but i'd say Washington is JVR's best bet. OVI, Backs and now Oshie... adding JVR would be amazing for them and Washington has the assets to move to help Toronto with the rebuild |

Good grief.
Nieto's value is trending up. Snakebitten last year, but was doing all the right things and driving possession.
Wingels does all the little things I love in a middle 6 forward. Plays any forward position, good defensively, hits everything and has some scoring prowess.
Mueller is a 1st round draft pick defenseman who looked better than Hannan or Irwin despite his first assignment being paired with Maverick Burns. A tough partner to cover for due to his getting used to defense again and offensive nature. But he looked good. TMac did not exactly give him a lot of chances. Almost certainly will be a 3/4 Dman who can move the puck in the mold of Vlasic.
Jevpalovs was a late bloomer who suddenly found his game and put it all together. Looked out of this world this season.
So yeah, you can try to ascertain their value right now, but they are worth more to the Sharks than others, so they will not go easily. Nieto and Wingels are likely to be part of a trade in the future at some point, but only because we have a TON of underrated depth in the system. |

a 20 year-old finding his game in the Q is hardly the sign of a can't miss prospect.
Nieto seems offensively un-gifted.
Wingels is a good 3rd liner; but 15/16 goals isn't scoring prowess and he is unlikely to exceed that total.
Mueller is definitely the prize of that offer; and the only interesting piece. |

More like wingels = slightly less value than brouwer for 1 mil less
Nieto = B prospect (former 2nd round pick)
Mueller = B prospect (former 1st round pick)
Jevpalovs = B- prospect (worth late 2nd round pick/3rd round pick)
You're undervaluing the trade a little bit but I understand you hoping to get more. I just don't think you will. If no better options are offered by another team and nieto is on pace for 40-45 points playing on our second line, would you make the trade by the deadline or decide to hold on to JVR for another season? |

Leafs better off keeping JVR then making this trade.
SJ wants JVR, will cost them Meier - no B prospects without a first round pick is going to net JVR. |

He also threw johansson in there as well.. I don't think there's any way Washington trades Bowey but I could see vrana plus a second if the caps are really serious about making a run for the cup. Of course they would try to offer a 1st rounder next year instead. |

Guess both teams are better off not making the trade then |

After 6 seasons and opportunity to play with great offensive players, Johansson has been OK....still only 24 but I don't think he will ever be much more then he is now.
I like Vrana a lot, just as much as Bowey - I would be happy with either.

Meier is not Eichel, McDavid or even Marner or Strome....
He is a very nice prospect who most likely will not be as good as JVR when he reaches his prime (that's just the way the odds work with prospects).
So not sure why you would not be interested in making that trade - it's not like you are getting a 30yr old hockey player on a bad contract. If I were SJ, I would be totally cool with that kind of trade for JVR. |
