3 things id love to see in next cba
limit of 1 ntc contract per team
1 drafted player contract exempt from cap. to help keep home grown talent{supertrar}
limit of raise on players coming off elc to help avoid "missing" and paying a young player on potential |

Gotta wonder if Hak's gonna have the political capital at the start to put Vinny in his place -- Chief was a rookie coach, but he at least had his rep as an NHL player to add a bit of legitimacy to his decisions, and the players already treated him as an authority figure from his asst. days.
Guy like Hak walks in, never played an NHL game, never coached a pro game... he starts putting vets in tough spots and he could find himself dug in pretty quickly in that room. - Tomahawk
Considering the GM has already said the team and player aren't really a fit I think he has plenty of capital.
Also this isn't a contending team in transition. This is a reshaping of a non-playoff team and there is a certain youth movement coming/ already on the works. |

I'm not worried about it. He's got the backing of the GM if you remember earlier comments about how the players will "know whose in charge" and things like that. They know this is no lame duck coach.

Honestly, if AMac could go out and play quality D while generating 5 or 6 goals and 25-30 points, I'd be fine with him at 5 million. I have yet to see that player. - BiggE
It's the same situation TB has with Matt Carle right now. They signed him to a deal comparable to AMAC and he's been underperforming to put it nicely. TB is aggressively trying to get rid of him.
Also, my opinion on AMAC is he's a solid D-man. Coaches have mismatched him against top lines. He is capable of playing a lot of min and doesnt hurt the team entirely in that position but since his time as a Flyer I havent seen his play strike me as being top 4 quality. Just because you play 22 min a night that doesnt mean you are a "top 4" defensemen. Its just that there isn't any better options available. Like someone mentioned earlier, Anton Stralman is far and away a better player than AMAC and makes 4.5 mill a year. That is a "top 4" defensemen. |

Hard to believe Hjalmarsson still only makes a little over $4M despite him signing that largish offer sheet coming off of his ELC. - Tomahawk

I would honestly hope that players are smart enough to understand that going to the mat for every single aging player whose best days are long gone is silly
Once upon a time, Wheels came into the league and somebody else got pushed out. It's the nature of things, and whether it's Chief, Hakstol or Scotty Bowman telling you, that just isn't going to change -- sometimes, it's your turn |

interesting ideas. i can't see the single exemption ever happening, but you never know. i mean, a team might heading to vegas soon for (frank)'s sake, not to mention advertising on jerseys. - hammarby31
doesn't nba have 1 0r 2 player exemption from cap or used too or some form to help keep superstars on drafted team?? |

i believe there was a luxury tax in place that allowed teams to spend over the cap. not sure if that's still in place or something else. also not sure i'd look to the nba as a model for anything the nhl would emulate. |
