Is Vinny Lecavalier a power forward? Now thats the real question of the day.

One has to think that Lecavalier retires after this year, when:

A) his game has not markedly improved from last season;

B) he runs into the same benching problems with the new coach as the old coach; and,

C) he realizes... "I don't need this s***, I am a wealthy man. I have many leather bound books, and my office smells of rich mahogany."

It's a definite possibility. Probably the only reason why he's stilllaround

Hhhhmmmm. LTIR Umberger?

just hope the flyers don't get in trouble here if doctors physically clear him to play but umby says he's in pain. Flyers can always pay off doctors though. I like this option

Paying off Doctors? Seriously?

That was scary, and he definitely had a concussion. But the Svoboda hit had people thinking he was dead.

Neither did Svoboda. They co-existed when both were on the Flyers but Svoboda did not forgive him. That elbow, completely unprovoked, cowardly and gratuitous could easily have killed Svoboda with the way he hit the ice.

I was there for that game. I saw several people crying because they thought the worst. That was the quietest I've ever heard 17000+ people.

My dad and I actually did think he was dead. The pool of blood under his helmet and then the blood coming out of his mouth were the scariest thing I've ever seen happen in a hockey game aside from the Malarchuk and Zednik throat cuts. I liked the McTavish beating, but at that point, there was no undoing what had been done.

No. you have to get playing time to be considered a power forward

Other than Umberger and Lecavalier, they don't have any other contracts that are a problem. Flyers cap issues have always been overblown. Even the Lecavalier and Umberger situations are more of a speed bump, than a cap road block. There's always cap panic in Philadelphia.

No one's getting in his way when there's freshly-popped, hot pocorn in the Cote Suite.

Yeah, it's bad.

And like I said, McTavish put a pretty healthy beating on him and ended up kneeing him in the face, but at that point, it couldn't undo the damage. I was amazed that Svoboda didn't have an long-term effects.

He doesn't set up enough screens in front of the goalie or murder people in corners. But he does like to fight from time to time. So basically, he's a taller, less power forward version of Shjod Podein. Now, Dino Ciccarelli, there's a prototypical power forward.

I would argue that Amac is also a problem contract but we'll just get into a 10 page debate on whether or not Amac is a quality defensemen and worth his cap hit. So disregard.

Only reason the cap isn't a problem is because this team won't really be in contention over the next couple years. Therefore, they don't really need the room to add talent. They just need the room to keep talent.

Would be smart to extend Couts now long term. He'll probably see easier usage and better linemates, which will result in more points. Flyers should buy low on him this offseason. Same with Raffl.

The Mike Richards hit on David Booth was the worst one I've ever seen live. His limp body just spiraling down on the ice was pretty scary.

Gotta love the witty guy in the next section over going, "Oh, come on...what, did he DIE or something!?" Well, dude, he's not moving and just took severe head trauma, yeah, he might be.

- jmatchett383

Yeah, Richie destroyed Booth. Booth was never the same player after it

If you truly wanted to disregard, you wouldn't have brought it up. The reality is that if MacDonald improves over last year, and plays to his ability, it's not an issue. It would really only be a slight overpayment.

There wasn't. But Marsh looked like he was in serious trouble, he wasn't moving at all.
- Jsaquella

Yup, I was at that game. It was scary, we thought, at least for a moment, that Marsh might have been dead. He wasn't moving at all and you could hear a pin drop in the building.

Nope, but he did beat Richards up.

Man, for a guy who fought as frequently as Richards, dude couldn't fight. So, yes, Brayden Schenn is like Mike Richards in that way.

Yup, it was in the playoffs, they had to basically pull Sami back onto the bench he was out on his feet.

Other than the 9.1 million being spent on players who provide less than replacement level production, everything is hunky dory, peachy keen!

And as Bill pointed out in his blog, they likely wouldn't be able to move MacDonald either due to the term of his contract.

If my math is correct, almost 20 % of the cap is being eaten up by players who are either below average, or average. Plain and simple, bad business.

That being said, Hextall has only made one real mistake during his tenure as GM. And that is Umberger. He rectified the Rinaldo error, by amazingly recouping an asset for a worthless player.

The overall direction of the team seems much improved, and it appears an actual plan has been put in place. Instead of the usual reactionary type transactions previous regimes made.
