Just back reading a bit. WOW. Is this a baptism by fire? Or maybe an alter-reincartiaion by fire. Good stuff.

Oh and btw, AMac doesn't play worth his contract.

He could just retire too.

I think his agent went out and looked around to see if there was interest and he was underwhelmed. At least with the Flyers he'll get paid a lot and get a good opportunity for regular playing time.

Other teams may have only been offering tryouts or vet minimums

- PhillySportsGuy

Well, that would be pride our greed as well.

I honestly think he has something left in the tank. Just needs the right opportunity.

for Alt w/ Vinny, i'd be satisfied w/ future considerations in perpetuity
- isaiah520

Flyers are rebuilding anyway so freeing up cap space for this season was never a huge priority for Hexy.

Well see who gets re-signed before next years FA class, but if it's underwhelming again, they may just ride out one more year of Vinny and Umberger in order to completely cleanse themselves.

....or Hagg
- MBFlyerfan

I wouldn't do Hagg, but that's probably the type of prospect it would take

No it's not. It's my foolheardy, idealistic attempt to battle in words and logic a person, dare I say a never-sleeping, machine-like entity that refuses to accept either, even when the proof is there.

- Mononoke

Who is the guardian of what is actually proof? I think that's the problem. The analytics you bring up are offered as proof, when it's simply not possible to be that.
Everything I've offered in rebuttal is logical. Starting with Corsi and the false data involved. It's all based on that. It's flawed when applied to individual players. There's simply no way of getting around that issue.

Part of me feels like I just went through my initiation on this forum. All of you were in my place once.....we were all naive fools once.

"Why do we fall, Bruce?"

"So that we can learn to pick ourselves up."

"And.....?"

"To tune out trolls?"

prob is buyout after nxt yr hits them w/ 2.9 & 2.4MM the 1st 2 yrs. it's not a great time to be handicapped like that when having to pay a lot of plyrs.

Altherr really flies under the radar. I'm with you, I'd like to see him up with the big club soon. He's older for a prospect but he's a much better defender than both Herrera and Revere. And I'd love to see what he offers at the plate.
- TobyFlenderson

Yeah, it's a bit like Ruf, get him a chance before he hits 30. But might as well see what you have there.

Haha I don't think there's a position on the Flyers forward group Vinny hasn't played at. And he's been disappointing at all of them. Only thing left is to test him at defense or goalie.....what do we have to lose?

That's true, but if he can't play anymore, gaining 1.5M and 2.1M to use for those player's, is better than having 4.5M of dead space.

Yeah. I just fear that too many fans view Nola as the next Hamels

Phillies have historically been awful at developing starting pitching

- PhillySportsGuy

Yeah, between Hamels & Myers, who was there? Kevin Gross?

Holy poop, I think it was Gross.

That's why I don't really like the buyout for VL. It only saves them about 1.5M in the first year and about $2M in the second. I just don't think it's worth it

I think Hexy will deal Streit at the deadline and that will give him flexibility in the offseason even after re-signing Jake, Schenn, Couts and Raffl

I've never understood why they just don't platoon Ruf. Now, it's kind of out of my mind, but in seasons past, especially last year, I just didn't get it. I actually don't even like Ruf. I think his power is overrated with a K rate worse than Howard. I suspect he'd come up short but I'd rather a new guy come up short than an old guy expectedly coming up short.

I miss Duckworth, Figueroa and Robert Person

My favorite Phillie game may have been the game Robert Person hit two home runs and had 7 rbis. I remember watching with my friends and no on spoke.

I could see Hakstol giving Lecavalier a look in the pre-season, if only to try and build a market for him. I just can't see him rejuvenated enough to draw interest.

Oh you have to think they'll give him an outward looking "fair shot," even if they probably have their minds made up on scratching him. I've just never understood the logic that bc Vinny plays with Pebbles and VDV and doesn't look good that he'll magically return to contributing form at least if he was bumped up. He was bumped down in the first place because he couldn't deal with the tougher play. Just strikes me as going round and round and round.

i hear you there. my "strategy" would be to freeze Vinny out. iow, once Hakstol comes to the same logical conclusion that brooby did, i'd just tell him that there's no room for him. then i'd wait it out until he's willing to be more flexible for a trade or termination. he really could only play in Europe right now, so if the "biological clock is ticking" ( ), how bad does he want to play anywhere?

Obviously the roster may change between now and opening night but I'd love to see Giroux and Voracek separated. Keep them together on the 1st PP unit.

Raffl Giroux Simmonds
Gagner Couturier Voracek
Read Schenn Umberger
White Bellemare Lecavalier/VandeVelde
