Ya it pretty much takes Toronto bias to an all new level...

As a fan on the outside, it looks as though management sees this year as a...shudder.... evaluation year. Which if you look at the bigger picture may not be the worst thing. See how Schultz and Yak perform, if Talbot can be a starter. Next off-season we will have Nikitin's entire cap hit gone, Purcell will be gone, Scrivens more than likely. That's some good money to put to better use than Franson.

As much as Nikitin sucks, next year isn't our year anyways it would be a waste of cap if we bought him out..
So much expensive dead weight will be gone after next season, Purcell, Nikitin, scrivens, etc. After we rid ourselves of them it would be much easier to fit a number 1 dman into our roster.
Also next years UFA class is SEXY.

I think he would be insane to mutually terminate a 4.5M dollar contract. He's never making that much money again (in 1 year).
