Moving along....
It's an arbitration. The team's number is lowball, while the player's is highball. The arbitrator will pick a number in between. Of course he doesn't think he's worth $8 million, but the Caps don't think he's worth only $5.1 million. Just basic negotiating at play. And until the teams walk into the room with the arbitrator, there can still be a negotiated settlement. - bodiva88
I think he's worth Rask monies. Somewhere in the $6.75-$7.25 range

For anyone who will be in the Atlantic City area this weekend:
My acoustic trio and my singer's cover band will both be playing at the Chelsea Beach Bar in Atlantic City on Friday night from 6-10pm. The bar is on the beach in Atlantic City between Morris and Chelsea avenues.

So out of 16 potential applicants, the $2M non-refundable deposit scared off all but two:

Nice job NHL. - Tomahawk
Somebody wrote a thoughtful piece about the NHL focusing more on long term viability rather than a cash grab .
The first comment recalled Phil Esposito's story about how he helped Tampa land the Lightning. He was fronting Japanese investors and he said just follow my lead and have a cashier's check for the full expansion fee when we go in there.
Nothing has changed

If you cant afford 2 million dollars, you have no business having a professional sports franchise.

I'm thinking some of these other groups look at the league and just know that there will be one or more teams relocating soon... probably save a couple of hundred million in fees going that route. |

Whether or not they can afford it isn't the point. It's $2M you'll never see again if you're not one of the chosen few. |

Good way to weed out those who aren't serious.
