Or......... people can actually start going for trades again.
For some reason, being an electrician or a plumber is out of the question. You either spend 100k on an education and complain that there are no jobs, because 950,000 other people went for degrees in the same field, or people just drop out of college all together.

Have there been articles that state the # of workers that fit that field? It says it's strictly for "chains that operate 30 or more locations", so obviously they'll employ some decent amount of employees, but man...in the grand scheme of employees in NY state, I can't imagine it's some huge number of people.
I just see it as a slippery slope with lawsuit after lawsuit that'll cost the taxpayers even more money as other groups file cases of discrimination/equality.

Thought the same thing . Also a false hope . it will be 6 years before they make the 15 an hour .
If the minimum wage is $5.00/hr or $50.00/hr, how does that really affect me?

The answer to this question is not as simple as you think. Unless you subscribe to the simple minded mathematics of y is greater than x. Go take an economics class and learn about the economic history of the country. I believe the banana posted a link showing that the actual highest minimum wage in relation to current dollars was in the 60s. It just isn't as simple as some try to make it.

I love trades. My second job is a SRO at a trade school. Same thing/idea as college, if you can flip burgers in an unskilled job for 15 an hour why put the effort in to learn a trade. The small increase in wage I rather work at McDonald's and put no effort into my job.

Imagine the pride that would come from being involved in the trades as a artist in the medium of concrete. To know how to feather the angles of sidewalks for our less fortunate, wheelchair bound brethren. To understand the Purpose of those odd polka dots. To revel in the beauty of a well poured curb.
