Maybe so but it's hockey related, right?

It was time to bring it all back.

Serious question:

If the minimum wage is $5.00/hr or $50.00/hr, how does that really affect me?

I don't do politics because I feel as if my life, and ultimately, my happiness is a result of my own actions and decisions and not what is happening to other people and what other people are deciding. But that's just me.

- rmiethaner

I'm not advocating one way or the other on the minimum wage issue as I simply don't have enough information to take an informed position on it. But I will say that the amount these employees make absolutely does affect you if you're a taxpayer.

Walmart employees received an estimated $6.2 billion in public benefits in 2013 because Walmart pays its employees so little. Meanwhile, fast food industry employees receive an estimated $7 billion in public benefits. McDonald's alone accounts for ~$1.2 billion of that total.

In other words, Walmart and McDonald's are reaping huge profits thanks, in no small part, to taxpayers subsidizing the cost of their workforce.

I don't know what the solution is, but I do know that these mega-companies aren't going to voluntarily pay their employees enough money to actually live on.

I'll sum the entire problem up quickly.

The system is broken and there's no real way to fix it. Period.

Not a knock on you, but these kind of statements are proof that Americans are complacent, lazy and obedient little fascists. The system is broken but there are hundreds, if not thousands of ways to fix it.

The problem at the top is capitalism but its much more than that.

The problem is that every solution has problems of its own. It's easy to say that people shouldn't get handouts, but a good portion of the reason these programs exist is because the government is trying to protect the children. It's never going to be a perfect system

NYS spends 700 Million dollars a year on welfare paid out to fast food employees who don't make enough money to pay their bills and need SS assistence.

Almost all of these fast food employees are given only minimum-wage, part-time, rotating shift work.

The 15 dollar minimum wage applies to McDonalds employees in NEW YORK CITY and possibly CHICAGO only at this point.

15 dollars an hour isn't even enough to live off of in NYC and Chicago, especially when it is part-time work.

McDonalds is a MULTI-BILLION dollar corporation. It can certainly afford it.

What the (frank) does it matter to you how much a McDonalds employee makes? It is a high-stress, high-traffic customer service job. You want to work at a McDonalds?

I just (frank)ing love how people like you female dog about poor people making 15 bucks an hour but have nothing to say about corporate douche-bag CEOs making 2,000++ bucks an hour.

If the majority of the workers weren't black would you run your mouth still?

Sit the (frank) down.

- DynamicThreads

I worked at McDonalds for three years (16-19). It was hands down the easiest job i ever worked at. Love how you make everything about a race. In my hometown just about everyone that works at my McDonalds is white. So its not about race. Its about the fact that is a simple job that 16 year old kids can do. You obviously have never worked in fast food lol...

Also the bold gave me a good laugh

No problem with this debate getting started, but man...you REALLY need to calm down sometimes...you come charging in and basically call someone a racist snob.

Your points are all valid, but chill out when getting into things

- stashu

his points aren't very valid. Fast food jobs are the easiest thing around. The only thing that stinks about them is working with uneducated scumbags and the grease smell.

Ppl should be a hell of a lot more worried about the CEO's of fortune500 companies tht make an average of OVER $5,000 PER HOUR

Plus,
The minimum wage going up would get A LOT of ppl off public assistance & that tax money can be put to other uses...
Education, Art, infrastructure, etc

Instead of saying...
"Why do they DESERVE more money?"
Maybe the focus shoul be on what would happen if they did get that increase in pay.
Pretty sure mcdonalds, wall mart, etc will be just fine

I mean he's only had 1 good year .. i hope he get's the 8m then they're (frank)ed
- gerbe75pts

He was pretty good as a rookie
Took a small step back last year but the Caps were an overall mess, so that explains his stay dropoff IMO
Then this year, he no longer had to split time, played 73 games & had a VERY good season
Then he had a pretty fantastic playoffs

He's 25 and trending upwards
I don't think he's a flash in the pan, but ive been wrong before, lol
Seems to me he's starting to enter his prime
If I were the Caps, I'd try to lock him up to a fairly reasonable deal (6mil-ish) for at least 5yrs

Maybe I just like him more than u,
But this year really impressed me
I'd LOVE him on Buffalo
I've got hope for Lehner, but he's still a big ? for me

I'm still trying to get over the fact that we no longer have Zadorov. I always saw him and Risto as our Keith and Seabrook. Recently I watched the highlight videos of every goal scored by the trio of Moulson, Ennis, and Girgs and every so often you see Nikita making a nice play with the puck that helps set up the goal (more often than Risto... Also, fun fact: Zads has a higher ppg avg than Ristolainen). He stands up for his teammates (see the tampa brawl last season when Zemgus was clipped by Hedman... Zadorov was the first guy in there getting in Victor Freaking Hedman's face). I have to think that if Murray puts him in the untouchable category with Risto and says "(frank) you you'll take McCabe", still no one would have beat our offer for ROR

Tough to say I McCabe would've got it done
I liked Zadorov's potential as well...
I loved when we drafted him instead of a forward when most on here were freaking out about it
Maybe it wasn't his potential, but his attitude that caused Murray to move him?
Maybe the AVs demanded he be in the deal?
Tough to know
I hve high hopes for McCabe though
I always though he could become a top pair defenseman
I've liked him for quite a while now

I have high hopes for McCabe as well, but I think Zads is on a whole different level. McCabe at his best is top 4 I think whereas Zads is top 2

Also its hard to accept the argument that Zadorov was traded for his attitude problems when we took on Kane with seemingly similar "immaturity issues"
