I do sometimes wonder what would have happened if I bought a poopty condo in SF for $350k then sold it before I moved here at a 125 - 150% return. I could have just bought my house but would have been eating Ramen for 7 years.

Long story short they're having marital problems because they have no friends down there and anything they want to do they absolutely have to drive to. And they couldn't leave if they wanted to because they bought their house and then it immediately lost 100k in value. shoulda stayed.
