They have 22 players on 1 way contracts (or at least waiver eligible - assuming Horvat makes the team again this year) with $2.8m in cap space. If even one rookie plays themselves onto the team and they trade a vet to make room they will have some extra space. You guys are getting all worked up over nothing. - 1970vintage
But when you lose 3 top 9 forwards a legit back up goalie and a Vet Dman (Matthias, Richardson, Bieksa, Lack and Kassian)
for
a 4th liner and a bottom pairing Dman and a possible back up goalie (Prust and Bartkowski, Markstrom)
You generally would expect there to be some cap saving in there. |

It's a shame no one sees the value of Mackezie Stewart
I should erase this some one will quote me on this in the next couple of weeks |

I heard Botchford on the 1040 this morning mention Lucics name twice. I would maybe keep a seat on the Oilers fan bus reserved just in case - VANTEL
(frank) the Oilers, they are the last team in the NHL I will cheer for.

They did also bring in Clendenning Corrado Baertschi and maybe Grenier
And Markstrom |
|
|

Baertschi was traded because he wasn't fitting in that system and Calgary decided that a 2nd was more worthwhile. I don't doubt conversations about Sven's future come up but I doubt very much that you can substantiate that rumour of him threatening the team.
That said I think he does have leverage because of the way he has been sold to this fan-base. We will see what happens but I am confident that he will be signed, that number might be higher than his comparables in regards to stats but the Canucks don't have many young players to hang their hats on and that is why he is likely able to put some pressure on Benning. - belcherbd
The fan 960 reported that Svens agent told the team that Sven would not resign with them and he wanted to be traded or he would not report this camp

True, but I think the point is that you'd ideally want to have more cap space available as a rebuilding team so you can take advantage of the better teams when they're in cap hell. |

They got a pretty good return if that's the case. Considering what Benning got for his problem child. |

I guess. It just annoys me that they easily could have had more cap space if Benning made better value signings. 2M isn't much, you need 5M+ to really have some freedom and chips to play with.
It's scary to think what a team like ANA would look like if they spent to the cap. Or even Ottawa to a lesser extent. |

Wouldn't matter anyway. Benning would probably give Miller a $14m extension. |

The ideal way is to be well under the cap with entry level contracts with good young prospects. I think we will be ther next year or the one after |

Matthias -1.75m
Richardson -1.15m
Bieksa -4.6m
Kassian -1.75m
Lack -1.15m
Total = 10.4million
Prust +2.5m
Bartowski +1.75m
Markstrom +1.55m
Total = 5.8m
That looks like some cap savings to me?
If you're not replacing a bunch of high salary players with ELC's, how can you expect your cap number to come down? - Vancouver doesn't have a plethora of ELC players ready for the NHL.. |

Pending Baertschi who looks to be the only addition to the roster of the players you mentioned, so once he will be signed that number will go down again.
Corrado, Clendening and Grenier will be the same they were last year which was depth players.
Regardless of their play all off Lack, Kassian, Richardson, Matthias and Bieksa played significant minutes that are being replaced by IMO inferior players and you would think there would be some cap saving there.

There will be close to two mil . Last year at the end of the year we had like 400k space and Clen Cor were not part of that cap space nor was markstrom |

I really don't think the team will ever be in a position where they have 5M+ in cap space. They'll spend it to make sure ticket sales don't plummet. I'm fine with that but I'd like to see more Vrbata type signings or what TO did with Winnik/Santo. Sign guys who can be flipped for picks to speed up the rebuild. More quality picks = higher chance of getting a quality ELC player. |

You can add Bartowski and Webber to that list as well if they aren't in a playoff position #1yeardeals |
