I am not too sure this team will make the playoffs - VANTEL
I thought last season for sure we weren't going to get there but I was proved wrong. With the Sedins and Miller here we will have a legitimate shot at the wildcard or a higher PO spot. How everything else fits in the mix is beyond me. I think we have a legit shot at getting in again this season. LA and SJ are on the downswing which was inevitable. CAL will regress a bit but the OIL will be better but maybe not a PO team...we have a shot... |

I did think we would make it last year but don't think we will this coming year. Although I agree, we're not bad enough to be discounted entirely. |

Ok this is kinda boring topic id say. So side topic..... are you happy with our coaching staff and what would you do to change it if youre not?
I'll weigh in my 2 cents ( now days maybe it should be changed to a twoonie since 2 cents isnt worth anything anymore and penny isnt even official currency )
I think changes are needed. I was concerned all year with defense. Seems no one has taken time to relay a plan to the D. You see this with the uncoordination and disorganization constantly game to game. Doug lidster runs the defense so id dump his ass and bring in a good defensively sound coach. Dont let willie chose, his last choice was a bust.
Glen gulutzen. I think hes done a great job with special teams with us being ranked #3 I believe in PK. Pp improved too. He survived the bench clearing for a reason. Id like to see him have a bigger role with the team. Like how he took the bull by the horns in torts year by saying lets show you guys how to forecheck as it wasnt happeneing and torts never ran a single practice.
For this id suggest randy carlyle, he was a great D when he played and has won a cup as head coach. Sure hed be an assistant coach but I like this as he can focus on streamlining D without wearing down the team with rants. I also like it since he has experience at nhl level and he can tweak a team, something willie got schooled on in the playoffs by hartley. So he could have a bigger role come playoff time. Not sure if theres other great names out there for it but this knes a slam dumk. You get abgreat teacher of D and excellent strategist, but limit it to assistant so his voice doesnt wear out the team. Come playoffs let him losewhen needed.
Sure some of you will bring up toronto, but hey he had that train wreck of a team performing better than anyone else could. And well, its toronto. Plus its a more limited role. - SMBDragon

No thank you to Carlyle, he has a cup as coach because he inherited a good team...90% team - 10% Carlyle. He showed his true abilities when he inherited the leafs from Wilson, poopty team, with poopty finishes, with 2 different poopty coaches.
So WD gets out coached in the SC playoffs by a coach with 14 years of NHL experience and 2 years Swiss league to 1 season of NHL experience. I don't believe the coaching was the reason for playoff failure, but it was a product of the lack of skill and determination on the ice.
I've seen this post before where the playoff demise is because WD got out coached by BH...BS, team got outplayed and lost, by a team with more determination. - Makita
Then you don't truly understand the game and the role of a playoff coach. Not many people actually see strategy changes made by coaches. Some do however. It's literally a chess match.
Sometimes I wish I had the opportunity to take tape and show people what happened. Hartley exploited our defensive weaknesses. And WD had no answer till game 5. Too late. Hartley immediately adjust back and wins the series.
Both teams were determined to win. To say the canucks weren't is simply retarded. You seriously think an ENTIRE team just choked. That's bullpoop.
I wish some of you could see the deeper aspects of the game and understand differences in coaches. Tweaker win playoff series by exploiting other teams weaknesses and tendencies, non tweak coaches do not but instead have good regular seasons.
JQ us a tweaker, and john cooper, babcock., carlyle, sutter, julien, laviolette. .......AV is not, nor is budreau. |

Messier took down Makis - VANTEL
I can't believe the franchise I follow would do something like that. (frank) Messier that (frank)ing piece a poop. I would go on but I would get banned. All I can say is Messier's the most overrated players of all time. The NHL loves him and I have no idea why. |

Cabin in the Woods was a strange flick - I'm not sure it knows what it wanted to be - a horror flick? sort of. A science-fiction flick? sort of. A film with dark comedic undertones - sort of. In any event, at least it was original |

Only time I have hated Messier was in 94 when we lost...and that was more Bettman than Messier. I actually really enjoyed EDM's cup run without Gretzky there. Sather and Gretzky never won a damn thing outside of their little bubble in EDM...majorly overrated. I always thought Gretzky was massively overrated because of the protection he needed from the league and the like to achieve his status. Messier was a different breed and the love that comes for him is that he was tough...massively tough and mean player who got things done. EDM don't win no 5 cups in the 80s without Mess there...no way. He was mean, nasty, angry and effective which many people like in the evolution of this great game. He's a born winner and he knows how to do it. Yes he was a dirty player but that was the sign of the times. It is what it is my friend. |

Im serious, if I am Nashville , about a month before trade deadline I make a serious offer for them . With their goaltending and D , the would be top 4 favourites - VANTEL
Wait. You mean trading them this season? or in 2-3 years time?
Who knows what the makeup of Nsh D/goal tending will be by the time the Sedin's are on expiring contracts, right? |

I think 20 goals 42 pts is better than ok . It doesn't sound like underachieving at all. If any Canucks got 20 goals 42 pts I would consider them achieving also. - VANTEL
Would totally take C.Wilson on my team.
Like a bigger Hansen, with better hands. |

I mean trading this year so Nash would get 3 years of offense not just one. They would give up more now |

Maybe he might break out this year (personally I doubt it, though), but that's what everyone has kept saying the last five years. A first time 20 goals season is a good start. He's just very inconsistent and streaky. As such, I don't think he'd be a huge upgrade on offense. But we'll see if he can repeat the decent year he had last campaign. He's still quite young and, at least, would make a bit of a reclamation project (even though it seems Nashville management seems to have a hard-on for him and given him a lot of different looks) |

I don't like posting in other team threads but I mean, this post is really dumb. You think you are the only one watching games that understands and sees in-game coaching adjustments or something?
Yes Hartley out coached Desjardins but WD was also a rookie coach. Look at Therrien in the lockout year 1st round. Got his ass handed to him by Walrus, learned from it and is a much better playoff coach for it. The guy was in his first PO series with a team that no one really expected to be ranked that highly going into the
POs. how can you not want to give him another kick at that can before messing with things behind the bench?!
Oh, and if you're going to place yourself on a pedestal like that, you might want to get your info right. Cooper, Carlyle and Sutter are NOT quick to make in-game adjustments if they make any at all. Just because they have good teams that can turn it on, does not mean the strategy itself changed.

gotcha. don't see it happening, but gotcha.
What do you think a reasonable asking price could be when they're on expiring contracts? assuming salary is retained and not an obstacle for a team acquiring the twins?
Maybe....a 1st
high end prospect (perhaps a Dman)
2nd line (Top 6) expendable winger
and a 2nd rounder.
Would be an expensive purchase, but as a buyer you would have the assurance that they play together and would more than likely find some chemistry with any number of wingers (unlike signing 2 random players from diff teams and hoping for the best).
