If you had asked me 5 years ago if the Canucks would ever trade the Sedins, I would say hell no. But Benning and Linden are wildcards, so I don't really know what will happen. I'd like to see the Sedins stay Canucks for their whole career, but I'd also like to see them win the Stanley Cup at least once. Post career, I see the Sedins splitting their time between Vancouver and Sweden. Perhaps the Canucks could hire them as scouts for Swedish players, and maybe players in Finland, Norway, etc.
I don't like posting in other team threads but I mean, this post is really dumb. You think you are the only one watching games that understands and sees in-game coaching adjustments or something?
Yes Hartley out coached Desjardins but WD was also a rookie coach. Look at Therrien in the lockout year 1st round. Got his ass handed to him by Walrus, learned from it and is a much better playoff coach for it. The guy was in his first PO series with a team that no one really expected to be ranked that highly going into the
POs. how can you not want to give him another kick at that can before messing with things behind the bench?!
Oh, and if you're going to place yourself on a pedestal like that, you might want to get your info right. Cooper, Carlyle and Sutter are NOT quick to make in-game adjustments if they make any at all. Just because they have good teams that can turn it on, does not mean the strategy itself changed. - kev1586
Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean a don't understand the role of a coach...you did exact same argument a week or 2 ago. And were promptly told by many posters who were high level athletes that you over-estimate the role the coach plays.
Yes the coach prepares the team to play a particular system after analyzing the other teams playing style, everyone is pumped and jacked to the point they have to contain their nerves, except the more experienced players who have been there before.
Vrbata got pasted in game 1(gun shy afterwards) and never became the true threat of the sniper the canucks needed. Bonino was injured, Sedins were shut down, Beiksa was aloof and did an unbelievable job...no an outstanding job of completing awesome passes to the flames players. Lack was mediocre at best, Miller was injured and played like it. Horvat was a stud, the only bright spot on a under achieving team that over achieved in the regular season.
Yes yes yes the coach has a role in the way players are prepared, but the players playing style determine the outcome of the game.
I found your reply quite condescending, if your such a phenom at understanding coaching philosophies you must have been one of my instructors, of the 3 national coaching certificates I have achieved. (they were in soccer but the philosophies are similar) - Makita
I have had a few pints...but I'm not quite sure if his posts are serious. The whole "post season" vs "regular season" coaching argument is incredibly ridiculous. either way, I'm entertained

I don't know why I bite at some poop. I've been at home to long, time to go back in the field.
So, if this was their final year, and you were trying to trade with Nsh something like
1st
2nd
Colin Wilson
Josi/Jones (whomever they chose) - dbot
Your never getting either of those D men in a deal ...especially not Seth Jones ...you will get first rounder and prospects ...maybe one roster player ...no team will subtract that much roster value in a deal
i could see the twins being traded once they are on expiring contracts ...and you'll get more probably by dealing them separately then as a package
IMO id just keep them ...they will be very good top 6 guys into their 40's ... The twins aren't the fastest out there and never have been ...when they were winning scoring titles etc id be willing to bet there are some in here who could out skate them ...they have the hands and the brains to go with that ...when the league was calling it stricter they flourished ...now not as much ...that along with other teams being more aggressive with them is why they aren't appearing as dominant ...sorry Vantel

I think straight up the Sedins get Fiala a first and maybe Wilson . The player I am interested in is Jones and that is why're I threw in Edler who still has four years at 5 mil per , very reasonable and reliable.
You just can't turn your head Sedins will be top 20 in scoring for next three years . I do also expect to eat at least 2 mil per on both contracts.

Possibly but I highly doubt it. I can see them staying for a one-two year deal after their current deal expires. Most likely a one year. I just don't see a trade with poper return for them in our future and we don't want to go down the salary retention road. By the time Horvat, Virtanen, Cassels, Boeser and a few others are running the show here they just might want to stick around here for a year or two and ride their coat tails a bit. Like you said they will still produce the closer they get to 40...

At this point none of those prospects are a sure thing tho and having the twins there will help them to be insulated properly as well as teach them a few things along the way

You think the Canucks would trade Horvat if he was Asian/Chinese?
Seth Jones will not be traded. His value on the ice is tremendous. His value off the ice even more so. - RealityChecker
I think when you're going all in for a stanley cup you make hockey trades. People in Chicago dont cry about how many years the Hawks are paying Hossa because they've won championships.
As for your Horvat comment, Jeremy Lin has moved around a lot these days even though he was at the top of jersey sales at one point. Eddie Lack was traded too. Popularity isnt going to get you wins

It's not popularity. It is being able to market an African American star in the south. If you think that is equivalent to trading Lack or Lin moving, I think we are on completely on different pages.
With respect to your Hossa comments, Hossa was a UFA signing. He won in his 1st or 2nd year there so they knew they can win with him.
Rentals (even 2 year ones) are highly risky. More tales of caution than success. A team will pay for rentals but not at the level of a Seth Jones. His potential is through the roof and his ability to connect with an under represented market is undeniable in Tennessee.

It is popularity, youre suggesting because he is black he is easier to market, thus more popular among a certain demographic. Jeremy Lin was a big draw for Asian basketball fans, literally exactly what youre thinking Nashville wants with Jones (both Americans with heritage).
My point with Hossa, or any other move, is that all is forgiven if you win. If Nashville somehow decides its a good idea to trade Jones for the Sedins and they win the cup, they will forget all about Jones and market the poop out of their Conne Smyth winner, their captain or some playoff hero. Winning takes care of everything.
And yes I dont think they will ever trade Jones, I was merely poking fun at the Hamilton situation, as it was previously thought impossible. As is the idea of trading young players like Seguin or Forsberg, both of which happened.

It's unfortunate that the hawks lost black community support when they traded Dustin away. They should have traded for Iginla. With a first name like Jarome there is no way black people could not watch...
