I actually think that's a step backwards.

That's somewhat unsurprising

Two people responded to your post the same way. Maybe your post was not clear?

Either way keep slapping your forehead. Knock some sense into you boy.

- bloatedmosquito

I would tell you to slap your forehead but I'm pretty sure that's the cause of your problems.

Traumatic brain injuries are no joke I suppose.

And Nashville getting the sedins minus Seth jones, guarantees them a cup, let alone 3 cups in 5 yrears?

Winning is the best marketing but more gm's have struck out on rentals than succeeded.

And you don't think Weber missing the majority of the playoffs this year reinforced the need to keep their big 3 d?

- RealityChecker

No I am just saying if they felt they needed more offense and that the Sedins could give it to them, it wouldn't be so crazy to think they make a trade or at the very least discuss Jones as a part of it. Especially if you consider the depth they have on defense. Nashville won games without Weber this playoff season against the eventual champions, that's pretty good. I think it reinforces how deep they are on defense more than highlighting a problem.

Again I will note that I dont think it would ever happen, but crazy trades involving young players have happened with teams that think they are on the verge on a championship

Not really. When we talked last you stated that the 'new ideas' and 'forward thinking strategy' really got you excited for the future.

Then the same team hires Lou as their GM? Not known for his forward thinking...

Just giving you a hard time. You dish it out pretty good. Don't get too worked up about it. To be honest I don't give a poop.

i pretty much agree.

like you, i feel there are too many factors against trading a young seth jones. being african american is one factor.

I agree. I think Shanny acted on all the Leafs trolls that stated no one on our front office had any experience with running an NHL club. Shanny appeased the trolls.

The Predators won't be trading us Jones but it has nothing to do with the fact he is black

I think that strategy was employed by Atlanta when they tried to save the franchise. Of course it didn't work though.

but it wasn't the reason that the franchise failed. see the difference?

race/culture is a great marketing tool that helps reach groups that are underrepresented in the league. i'm not saying it is the most important factor but to deny that it is a factor is naive at best.

seth jones is a rising star. a rising minority star. that is a huge marketing opportunity for nashville.

the same factors would come into play if the canucks had a rising chinese/asian/punjabi star. if you don't think that the team would consider that aspect before trading said star young player, i think we'll have to agree to disagree.

I think we can all acknowledge that its important to bridge the gap in the community and that as a team you want to reach new fans. I still think that the consideration is minimal and would only come into play if all else was equal.

i think it's more of a factor, the better a player is. it would be minimal if he was a depth dman. since he will probably become a star, i think it plays a bigger role.

with his pedigree (lol so many different ways to define that word in this context), i think seth jones is virtually untouchable. rising stars are rarely traded. a rising african american star in the south just makes the possibility even more remote imo.

at this point, we're just arguing "how much of a factor" it is. something that we will never know or could even quantify.

some of those "people" are actually african americans themselves.

I agree on this for sure. Every situation would be different, big/small market, owner's wealth, etc.

I will only add that I think its a bigger issue for ownership and marketing, than hockey ops. My thinking this whole time has been that if the GM feels like the hockey value is there, then it matters very little. I think Jones' ability makes him virtually untouchable and was a steal at 4th overall

Side note, Jones or Ekblad?

And how many of "those people" have money for hockey games? Carrie Underwood is a bigger draw for Nash than Jones will ever be.

i think that is a good place to leave it. it's a bigger issue for ownership/marketing than it is for hockey ops.

i'd go ekblad. he just seems like a guy who will be that 25-28 minute dominant guy. not the best in any one aspect but good enough in his all around play that he will be a perennial norris trophy consideration.

but that's like asking ferrari or lamborghini to a fan base that's only driven mercedes at best.
