Wow. I would have thought Lou would have stayed retired.
What does that say about how he feels about the Devils ownership situation?
Lou really has zero to prove, so if he fails in TO, it's not like anyone would think less of him. He's made his bones, several times over. - johndewar
Isn't he around 70 years old? It's going to be hysterical when he walks into a meeting in a few years and asks why Sittler hasn't reported into camp and how come Palmateer won't return his phone calls.

the Flyers have had their share of heartbreak and trading the Schenn bros would not be one - vejim
Why both of them??

All kidding aside, I do not "hate" Andrew MacDonald. Hell, I don't even know the guy. I just think that at 5 more years at 5 million per season, he is overpaid and that they could find the same production at a lesser cost.
To quote a line from one of my favorite movies, it's not personal, it's only business. If I could move any dman currently on the Flyers roster, it would be MacDonald and it's primarily because of his contract. If he was going into year 2 of a 4 year, 16 million dollar deal, I"d have no problem with him. - BiggE

I need to see Gudas play a little more before making a decision on that. They do seem to bring the same type of game, but they are also our only righties.
If Gudas comes in and impresses, or at least shows that he can provide what Luke does, then I would be open to moving Luke simply because Gudas is cheaper. - Fryman4
Agreed. It would be nice to have two big, punishing right handers on the blueline...so long as they're both getting the job done.
I'm very much looking forward to upcoming training camp and pre-season games to see the D competition. |

I'm gonna go out on a limb, but I don't think Hextall re-signed Schultz for 2 more years at 2.25 per to be the 7th man.
Just sayin.... |

The odd thing about Schenn that I've noticed is that he really seems to thrive with more minutes played. It's like something clicks when he can get in the groove of the game. Unfortunately he's exposed playing top pair minutes, but if he could consistently play at that level, he'd be a valuable mid pairing Dman. Unfortunately his flaws seem to come out more with shorter minutes (at least to me) |

I'm interested to see what Medvedev brings to the table. I don't think Schultz will be the # 7 guy. I still think Hextall moves a dman before the start of the season. |

Agreed. I really think Hextall would like to move MacDonald. But unfortunately there isn't going to be any takers.
Really amazing that the Flyers have guys taking up 14 million on the cap, that have zero value around the League. Tough pill to swallow. |

I foresee a power struggle between Lou and Shannahan. My money is on Lou. In all seriousness though, I don't really see Lou being the type of GM that wants to follow someone else's vision |

I would say below just based on his injury situation and missing basically a season of games. The little I've seen of Gudas in TB, he looked pretty decent to me. |

What are the odds that everyone is healthy coming out of camp and the exhibition games? That will, in all likelihood determine what Hextall and Hakstol do.

My guess is, assuming no one is moved and none of the kids make the opening night roster:
top 4: MDZ, Streit, Medvedev and Schultz
3rd pair: AMac/Schenn
7th man: Gudas
8th man or in AHL: Manning
I do though expect one or two vets to be gone by the trade deadline and of course injuries will most likely change things up as well.

I go with a bit of both. Individual talent is going to impact the group. Once Timonen was diagnosed, then the season started and Coburn was hurt/under-performing, we were left with a bunch of middling d-men who weren't quite getting it done (as a whole) from game to game. IMO. - wolfhounds
I think we're pretty much on the same page. I think the Flyers defenseman as individuals are all pretty good players. It's the mix of the defenseman that is the issue. They didn't have a top pairing last year, and they don't have one this year. |

I still maintain that Bob Clarke and Trent Klatt were having a secret manlove affair. It's the only way to justify the Fedyk trade. |

Yeah, but Toronto could easily be 4 or 5 years away from being a contender, and he'll be 76-77 by then. I really can't remember the last time any NHL team went out and hired a guy his age to take the reins, though I guess it worked out pretty well with the Phillies with Gillick, at least in the short term.

Should have dealt Schultz at the deadline if they planned on bringing back 8 dmen |
