the trap should help the Leafs +/- ratings - vejim
I don't think the Leafs are paying Mike Babcock a billionty dollars to run out Lou Lamoriello's systems.
Or, maybe Brendan Shanahan is punch drunk. |

Yeah, but Toronto could easily be 4 or 5 years away from being a contender, and he'll be 76-77 by then. I really can't remember the last time any NHL team went out and hired a guy his age to take the reins, though I guess it worked out pretty well with the Phillies with Gillick, at least in the short term. - BiggE

All kidding aside, I do not "hate" Andrew MacDonald. Hell, I don't even know the guy. I just think that at 5 more years at 5 million per season, he is overpaid and that they could find the same production at a lesser cost.
To quote a line from one of my favorite movies, it's not personal, it's only business. If I could move any dman currently on the Flyers roster, it would be MacDonald and it's primarily because of his contract. If he was going into year 2 of a 4 year, 16 million dollar deal, I"d have no problem with him. - BiggE
I think when anyone turns a discussion on Luke Schenn directly into a bashing of another player, there is a hatred there. None of us know the players personally for the most part, so it's not a discussion on players as actual people, but about them as hockey players. The hatred towards MacDonald as a player, is clearly there, as the post on page 1 of this thread clearly indicated. |

The odd thing about Schenn that I've noticed is that he really seems to thrive with more minutes played. It's like something clicks when he can get in the groove of the game. Unfortunately he's exposed playing top pair minutes, but if he could consistently play at that level, he'd be a valuable mid pairing Dman. Unfortunately his flaws seem to come out more with shorter minutes (at least to me) - mmcclatchy
My biggest issue with Schenn is the repeated mistakes and the same issues. His biggest weakness is that he gets caught flat footed too often, takes bad angles that he can't recover from, or drifts out of position. His lack of quickness prevents him from recovering from that. With the speed of today's game, players need a step on you, and you're beaten. |

Systems is generally a coaching decision, versus a GM decision. Devils haven't been a trapping team in a long time anyway. |

I'm interested to see what Medvedev brings to the table. I don't think Schultz will be the # 7 guy. I still think Hextall moves a dman before the start of the season. - PLindbergh31
Marti too. I'm hoping for good things from him. No doubt he'll start the year in the AHL, but it would be real nice if he showed he deserves a chance with the big club when injuries occur. |

Schultz, MacDonald, Streit and Medevdev can all play the right side. |

Tough call. They didn't know for sure at that point if they were re-signing MDZ and I'm not sure where they were with Medvedev at that point.

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Luke Schenn, Teryshny and Mickey, Alumni and More - bmeltzer
Luke Schenn is a young player still that I believe you can still work with. Your not gonna be able to fix his skating ability but he's a much better player than most give him credit. In my opinion, being a defensive defenseman is the most unappreciated position in Hockey and he shows on this message board daily. I think the biggest knock on Luke Schenn is, if he's likely to make one mistake in a game, only one, it turns out to be a goal. Even early in the season, he would get blamed for bad reads, when his partner Michael Del Zotto would often aggressively lead a rush, which left his D partner hanging out to dry. This is why Del Zotto was scratched first and ahead of Schenn early in the season. |

I think it's more about the perception versus the reality. Some perceive them as low hanging fruit. To each their own.
I see the issue as more about the collective, rather than the defenseman as individuals. - MJL
There's a LOT of reasons why the Flyers current cast of D is much maligned....LOT stands for lack-of-talent. A bunch of decent accessory pieces does not make for a good or great group....however the future is extremely bright...so I will digress.

Our mutual friend tends to get obliterated on the cheap stuff. Its low enough on the shelf (usually by her feet) that she can reach it easily.
I figured after that headline she started sharing it with BiggE
