Look, drafting higher gives a better chance of picking a truly elite prospect, but there are plenty of excellent quality hockey players to be found in later rounds, or at the end of the first round.

I think we have a pretty decent chance of being in the top ten in the draft this year. If we're able to move vrbata at the trade deadline for a first and a second we could trade the two first rounders plus the second for the tenth in the draft. In order for the pick to have enough value vrbata would most likely have to be traded to a bubble team and I don't see the trade happening if the pick ends up being higher than 15 or 16. It also wouldn't work if benning seems like he's desperate because the price of the pick will probably be raised. The pick could then be used to get a solid defensemen which is one of the areas where the team is still lacking in terms of prospects.
