This is BS. Most fans feel the Sedins are here to the end. That is not the same as wanting them here til the end of their contract.

Well that's just fans in our area, talk to people down south...I don't know how they'll live life after the Sedins.

Thanks Carol.
In my opinion, we don't need anymore playoffs. The post season is too long already with the Stanley Cup being awarded in late June. I love hockey and miss it when it's not on but I still feel the post season should be over by or around the May long weekend.

- Marwood

Playoffs are too long already. The NHL should go back to only 3 rounds so the Leafs don't have to answer the "never been to the 4th round" question anymore.

Frankly, I'd rather keep Edler and save the money for another day. I don't think Franson would be much of an ugrade (if at all) over Edler - perhaps on the power play but that's about it.
- Zogg

Edler didn't play too bad as a top 2 last season. needed more offense from him and Tanev though.

I don't know Franson's game that well. I heard he has some issues turning but provides great offence and hits. He doesn't really sound like a top 2 dman, maybe middle pairing or a 4/5 dman?

With that being the case, I'd rather see Corrado or Clendening get a shot. fwiw, we already have Weber as the pp specialist. Sbisa is here to stay and we still have to fit in Bartkowski... The truth is, if we could resign Hamhuis for around 4 mil per for 2 more years, he might be a better option to keep than signing Franson.

Maybe I am out to lunch on Hamhuis' next contract. another team may pay him 5 or 6 mil?

Im not a big fan of Franson but....

We could essentially do it buy draft picks at the deadline....
If we hit full tank mode by the trade deadline, that would give us 3 D to trade for high end picks including first rounder(s).

Buy the picks
4 years, 4.5
Obviously no no-trade clause

It is a gamble to sign guys with a plan of trading them later. Just thinking of Burkie in Toronto, signing some dmen thinking he was stocking up on assets but was unable to move them later. Not sure if Finger was among that bunch.

Anyway, I think you sign Franson if you think he is a great improvement over who is presently on our second pairing. But you would have to move Hamhuis or Sbisa to free up some cap/roster spot.

I am all for moving pending ufa's at the tdl if they aren't going to be resigned and we are out of the playoff race. Being in the playoff race, doesn't matter what I want, I have no idea what JB will do.

I think of what TL may have said at that townhall about not being able to trade Higgins, the talk of rebuilding or retooling the team while staying competitive and what Henrik recently said about making another run at the end of his contract as the prospects should be taking steps and finding spots on the roster.

We likely won't see the roster turnover everyone wants or at a pace that everyone wants but I hope JB keeps his word re. prospects. If they earn a spot with the big club, players will be moved to make room. If this starts to happen, it frees up cap space with players on elc's and maybe a chance to sign a big fish ufa or acquire a top dman in a trade.

the future is wide open

Franson could work out well if he is given some big minutes, he was okay in Toronto and did not get a lot of ice being behind Weber and Josi who play half a game and Jones and Ellis log loads too. I think he need more responsibility and he will be fine in Vancouver, big shot and only 27. Sign him.

Besides the fact he couldn't play defense, I guess you can say he was OK in Toronto.

He's not worth the money he's demanding. There's a clear reason why no one has picked him up yet. It's a lot of money to pay for a right handed shot who can't be trusted in his own end.

He really wasn't OK in Toronto. Absolutely brutal in his own end. Unbelievably soft for his size. Feet of cement. Has a booming shot that results in approximately 3 goals a season.

The points he did get were on the PP. He'd get it to Kessel on the half wall who would either skate to the middle and snipe one in typical Kessel fashion, or Phil would find JVR with a cross crease pass to tap one home.

Honestly, you need to stay away from Cody. If your D is that bad that Franson would be considered an upgrade, I'd suggest collapsing the whole thing and building through high draft picks. Bit like the Laffs

Franson isn't any better than Sbisa/ Weber/ Corrado/ Clendening/ Stanton. there's a reason he was tossed into a trade to Toronto by Nashville.

The guy is worth about league minimum - 1.35 mill per season as a depth 6-7 d man who can be used with a defensively responsible guy on the left side.

I'd be okay with him on a league minimum deal or up to 1.35 mill as i mention above.

Have said it before...he has not been utilized properly in either TO or NSH. Given the right TOI and situation(s) he may succeed here.. Salo was super soft with cement feet as well and worked out just fine here when he wasn't injured. At 4 or 4.5 Franson would be worth the risk but he apparently wants well north of 5 mil. We do need the big right hand shot in the worst way as I feel Weber ain't gonna work out here long term.

That whole utilised properly is my favourite line regarding a possible target. Not utilised properly.

My other favourite is when you wanna trade away a player who's useless and try to convince the other fanbase a change of scenery will do wonders for him.

My final favourite is trying to trade some crappy player who's massively overpaid to a team to help them reach the cap floor.

Not you specifically, but the royal you.
