Franson isn't any better than Sbisa/ Weber/ Corrado/ Clendening/ Stanton. there's a reason he was tossed into a trade to Toronto by Nashville.

The guy is worth about league minimum - 1.35 mill per season as a depth 6-7 d man who can be used with a defensively responsible guy on the left side.

I'd be okay with him on a league minimum deal or up to 1.35 mill as i mention above.

It is a gamble to sign guys with a plan of trading them later. Just thinking of Burkie in Toronto, signing some dmen thinking he was stocking up on assets but was unable to move them later. Not sure if Finger was among that bunch.

Anyway, I think you sign Franson if you think he is a great improvement over who is presently on our second pairing. But you would have to move Hamhuis or Sbisa to free up some cap/roster spot.

I am all for moving pending ufa's at the tdl if they aren't going to be resigned and we are out of the playoff race. Being in the playoff race, doesn't matter what I want, I have no idea what JB will do.

I think of what TL may have said at that townhall about not being able to trade Higgins, the talk of rebuilding or retooling the team while staying competitive and what Henrik recently said about making another run at the end of his contract as the prospects should be taking steps and finding spots on the roster.

We likely won't see the roster turnover everyone wants or at a pace that everyone wants but I hope JB keeps his word re. prospects. If they earn a spot with the big club, players will be moved to make room. If this starts to happen, it frees up cap space with players on elc's and maybe a chance to sign a big fish ufa or acquire a top dman in a trade.

the future is wide open

Have said it before...he has not been utilized properly in either TO or NSH. Given the right TOI and situation(s) he may succeed here.. Salo was super soft with cement feet as well and worked out just fine here when he wasn't injured. At 4 or 4.5 Franson would be worth the risk but he apparently wants well north of 5 mil. We do need the big right hand shot in the worst way as I feel Weber ain't gonna work out here long term.
- LordHumungous

Franson was given every opportunity to succeed and he didn't.

He's absolutely not worth the risk at 4-4.5 or else he'd be signed by now.

I'd rather have Weber and his lower salary.

The Habs are in a place to take that chance, and Semin may see it as a chance to play for a team with a chance at a Stanley cup. If he becomes a distraction, waive him.

Don't think he would have taken that deal to go to Vancouver. Didn't really want him here either...

That whole utilised properly is my favourite line regarding a possible target. Not utilised properly.

My other favourite is when you wanna trade away a player who's useless and try to convince the other fanbase a change of scenery will do wonders for him.

My final favourite is trying to trade some crappy player who's massively overpaid to a team to help them reach the cap floor.

Not you specifically, but the royal you.

Yeah I guess being paired with horrible D partners in TO in front of mediocre goaltending and crappy coaching don't mean much...then to NSH where he barely saw 12-16min/game. Thx for providing us with your remarkble insight..

Decent bottom pairing dman. I still can't believe the hate he received in here.

Like there's an expectation for a 6/7 guy to be putting up 30 pts?

Especially considering he was a rookie his first year here. Will he be missed all that much no, but he played well and still has some upside.

I agree, absolutely no interest in him but that doesn't mean he wont do well for the Habs. The guy I want Benning to pick up cheap is Fehr or Tlusty. Even Slater would be a really solid pickup that likely wont cost more than the league min.

They would be good pickups but I worry about all of the waiver eligible players we have. If Benning doesn't make room for them and we lose them for nothing it's going to be unbearable in here.

Just goes to show that it's always pretty easy to find quality bottom 6 players, yet the Canucks seem to be paying a premium for them in some cases.

I look at Fehr and think we need another centre for the bottom 6 or 4th line anyway and then I cringe at the thought of one of the most expensive 4th lines in the league if it was Prust Fehr Dorsett...

Maybe if we moved a winger and freed up some cap space...

I don't think there was much of a Raymond fanbase when he left

Santorelli at the price TO got him for sure, I wanted him back. Ideally we could have just signed him and asked for one of ANA's better prospects instead of Bonino.
