I can't help but read graham knott's scouting report as "Brandon Saad". Am I reading to much into it or was Knott just the best choice when they got to it?

Not sure I'd go there with him yet, but does have potential.

What Saad over most NHL players is his power skating. He accelerates very well and his top speed is very good. He's learned to use his body to shield the puck and to lean into the defender and bull his way into the middle of the ice. The few highlights I've seen of Knott does not remind me of Saad at all. Kreider is the same type of skater as Saad, maybe a little higher top end speed but not as good at the other parts of the game as Saad is.

Tikhonov is 27 and has played in the NHL. Not a prospect.

4 out of the 10 in that report were free agent signings.

- tredbrta

It'll be interesting to see how or where Tikhonov will fit on this Hawks team. Nice to see Bowman be able to sign all these free agent rookies.

I'm curious if they brought him in because they actually liked him or because they felt his presence would make adjusting easier for Panarin.

Does Hayes really count since he didn't sign?
- pjm901

In this case yes, because the point was about their drafting ability or lack there of. Kevin Hayes turned out to be a pretty good draft pick.

Here's my guess:

The plan after signing Panarin was to bring his very good friend with him, get them an aprtment downtown in President's Tower, but they waited after the Saad re-up blew up, and they got ArtemII.
TTikhonov waited patiently but wasn't kruger lowal so they finally announced the signing.

I am not sure if he is NHL worthy, a press box guy and translator, or more...we need to see..just like with Parnarin AND Dano.

Question;

Why would Nordstrom be on the active roster, thought he was a FA without a contract yet?

I believe he's RFA, so I guess they still have rights to him

Yeah, every RFA is considered a rostered player until he is either let go, signs an offer sheet, or signs a contract and is assigned.

Tikhonov is not a rookie. He played for the Coyotes after being drafted by them 7 or 8 years ago. I think he played less than a full season and then spent a couple years in the AHL before going back home to mother Russia. He couldn't cut the mustard in the NHL back then but a case can be made that he was rushed when he wasn't ready. I like the fact that he played for Russia at the WC but who knows if that was a political thing or the coach felt he was worthy to be on the team. We'll find out in a couple months.

Also , if Panarin needs some AHL time to get used to the North American style hockey/rink size, having Tikhonov in Rockford with him to start the season may make that more doable for Panarin.

I think that's a little unfair. You have to remember that when Tippett took over that team, they made a push for the playoffs and brought in a lot of vets that blocked a bunch of younger players, Tikhonov included. I think he probably looked at his situation and figured his ELC was expiring, he could make a good amount of money in Russia, and he would have a better opportunity to play. From his perspective, I can see why that makes more sense than grinding it out in San Antonio for another year or two until a spot opened up.

Panarin will not play in Rockford. Ever. His out clause dictates that this is so.

I didn't follow the Coyotes very closely back then but I recall kind of paying attention to Tikhonov because of who he is and my recollection is that he struggled and probably shouldn't have been rushed to the NHL - although I'm old and my memory ain't what it used to be
