I absolutely love the signing. Short, inexpensive contract for a player who was once capable of putting up point-per-game numbers. Semin has made it very clear that he is willing to work for a spot on the roster and get back to his old game. For a team with few weapons offensively, I expect Semin to play a big role in their offence. His creativity and scoring ability will only solidify the already dangerous Montreal power-play.

it was a smart signing given the low-risk nature but expectations need to be tempered. he put up the same numbers as PAP last year.

I read many comments from disgruntled fans claiming that he’s not necessarily Michel Therrien’s type of defensively-responsible player and will therefore not fit within the system. The issue with that argument is that Semin is a career +70, and one should recall that he did a lot of the heavy lifting during a time when Ovechkin hardly ever backchecked.

If they sign him I'm going to go for sure.

And they are signing a pretty good midfielder from Costa Rica.

Only if they commit to Galchenyuk at center or bring in another.

whatever, at this point they could replace Desharnais with this:

as a bonus they'd probably add a bit of size too.
