What I find stupid in all of this is the rule itself.

If the rules around the balls so important, why isn't it the league/refs that provide the balls for every game, instead of teams each having their own?

The QBs get to "bream them in" so they are not brand new and easier to handle.

But the referees handled those balls on every single down. If they were soft they could have thrown them out.
