That's a lot of excitement for what will probably amount to just a little bit of Semin |

I think this is a great signing. I mean, worst case scenario, we let him go for nothing next yaer if he doesn't do anything. If he gets going, maybe he'll stay for a reasonable price and time, and worst case scenario two, the kids will be older and more ready for NHL time. And the real worst case scenario, if he does nothing and is a bad influence in the locker room, with his low cap hit for the CH, they can bury him in the AHL to make sure he never gets an NHL contract in the future. |

Jennifer B Cutler: Habs Sign Alexander Semin!
The Canadiens surprised the hockey world by signing Alexander Semin to a 1 year $1.1 million contract. - Jennifer B Cutler
what did the canadiens pay for 20 goals? 1.1 million.
matt beleskey and his 20 goals? 3.8 million.
brandon saad and his 20 goals? 6 million.
robert frolik and his 20 goals? 4.3 million.
bergevin is a huge winner here.

Semin already scored 20 for the Habs? After this past seasons 7 goal performance in wouldn't count 20 before they happen |

saying semin is a bargain compared to saad
semin will get 15 goals, 30-35 points and then run back to the KHL |

Semin may bounce back and score 15-20 maybe more,....but what he does to a dressing room....and a coach...oh boy.
Semin hasnt been a potent scored since his days in Washington and even they let him walk....he came to Carolina, got his coach fired (who by the way has been kicking ass with less talent in Winnipeg) and couldnt produce playing next to Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner.....not sure how many he can score with eller feeding him the puck...did i mention how soft he is and has never done anything in the playoffs in his career? |

Habs for 15/16
Pac 44goal
Galch 32 goals
Semin 26 goals
Kassian 24 goals
Top 3 PP scoring in the league
More puck possession game
Gilbert and Desharnais traded before season starts
Galch #1 center

Semin will have Markov, Emelin, Galchenyuk, to get him motivated. He will respond with an excellent 20+ goal year....and help the PP big time. He will have no choice but to play well...very short leash, this is his last shot at the nhl.
Scerbach and McCarron will be brought up before the playoffs, will be interesting!
The Habs will keep getting younger and better as prospects take their role over the next couple years, the older players will have limited roles or move on.

He has another choice. Milk this year out putting forth the same effort then really cash in on the KHL |

None of this will happen. Patches scoring 44 goals is possible, but not likely. The other predictions are crazy.

Like many said, at 1.1m., if he doesnt do the job, they can say bye bye anytime and no one will cry. I see this as a good bet and as a transition move to give more experience to Scherbak and McCarron in St-Johns. I hope that if he gets a good start - say 15-20 goals at trade deadline - we trade him. I just pray we dont give him a long term contract.
I much prefer the Kassian gamble though. If he acquire maturity, here's a youngster we can build on. |

That is my fear as well. Say he has a good year and scores 25 goals. Bergevin would be temted to give him a long term deal cause they are desperate for scoring. I wouldn't do anything but a 1 year deal on him. |

No joke, this will be a new MT...he has a much different team now. Can play much bigger, and let the offence open up with a strong possession game.
Adding Petry, DSP, Kassian, Semin, + depth forwards, + young maturing forwards and defence makes this a very different team. Much stronger possession game, much better moving the puck, far better PP and scoring, bigger, stronger, faster, younger...all good!
Gone are DD, Gilbert, Malhotra, Prust, Weaver, etc all good players, but older, smaller, less offence than their replacements.
Great year for the Habs coming up!!!
Scherbach and McCarrron will bring energy for the playoffs, and be a full part of the team 16/17.
If Semin stays it will be year by year at a low $ cost....there are LOTS of up and coming forwards...depth is FANTASTIC for the next few years. |

I expect Semin will play very well under Markov, this will be the pickup of the offseason! Waiit and see, much different than in Carolina.
He will never get more than one year at a time...at very low $$ cost. If he doesn't perform or wants to leave there is a lots of young guns that need a chance. Very good position for the Habs.....

Semin will get 15 PP goals this year.....going to SHINE! Could easily hit 30++ goals...
He is like a younger, better scoring, Kovalev that will still have very good years in the right environment....the current Habs fit perfect for him.

In Carolina last year he came into training camp way out of shape and got into Peters doghouse. I don't know that I've ever seen a player look so disinterested on the ice. He should be motivated this year but he loves to take nights off. His new coach is going to love lighting a fire under him. It almost seems like justice putting the two of them together. |
