I always feel there are a large group of hockey fans who want to role 4 lines of Ovechkins and all that matters to them is goals scored. All things that don't show up on the score sheer don't matter to them. - hubie

This is why I feel like Larsson is the best guy to move. He seems to only be interested if he's getting top minutes and that's just not gonna happen for him here. With Eichel, Reinhart, Ennis, O'Reilly, Girgensons and Moulson I just don't see where he'd fit in. - HonkFortheGoose
Hes high up on my list of guys with good value and can be moved. May be at the top of the list |

It's funny too, because in most cases, those guys that don't show up on the scoresheet too often tend to play a larger role in getting a team to the SCF. |

In 9 less games and much worse linemates, Gionta scored 11 less points than the team leader (Ennis),
He's not a complete waste...yet - stashu
The question was who's the most expendable.
With Ennis and locking up #1 RW, and most likely someone like Reinhart or Eichel locking up #2 RW, a 36 year old bottom 6 forward goes to the top of my list.
If we are going just on worst player......it's Weber |
|
|
|
Eichel and Reinhart actually are what is throwing a wrench into the natural flow of our roster. In a perfect world they would spend most of the year in Rochester and most other guys would fall into place on what would be a pretty competitive NHL roster. But it's necessary for growth and the AHL has their rules in place for a reason. |

I guess I took it differently. Gionta isn't expendable in the way I interpreted it because you couldn't get rid of him for anything.
Foligno, on the other hand, is not even on Gionta's level yet could at least return an asset.
There's no other forward on this roster that would ground the personalities like Gionta would - another reason I don't find him expendable. |

But I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the rules that would prevent them from being in Rochester this season |

Agreed. I personally have never seen him as such. I think he could be a very effective third liner.
Kane, O'Reilly, Ennis
Moulson, Girgensons, <-> Eichel
McGinn, Larsson/Reinhart, Gionta
Foligno, Schaller/Legwand, Deslauriers
This lineup makes the most sense to me for the first game of the season. Problem is we have a huge jam of forwards. Hopefully TM's thinking of a nice package to get a guy or two out of here for a defenseman on the incline. - TheSabresTaco
Hes as solid as a third liner as they come. You would be wasting him on the 4th line. He is a guy you would want to extend. |

I think Reinhart could be Eichel can't? Either way I think there will be pressure on Buffalo to have both in the lineup weather they are ready or not. |

Problem is our top 9 is kind of a logjam. It's going to be tricky to shelter the kids a bit while still not impeding their growth by putting them out there with 4th line plugs. - HonkFortheGoose
Gio isnt a Top 9 player anymore, so he has to accept his role that he is an old horse being put out to paster. You dont put a 26 year old McGinn on the 4th line so a 36 year old Gionta gets to play with better line mates. |

I think the guy is a good pro, but it's been said before that we have a lot of potential captains on this roster. I don't think we would lose too much.
I also have some hope Foligno will be a decent player. He's more talented than McGinn. It's just whether he finds his way |

People like to complain about Foligno because of the way he broke into the league and because they seem to think that he should be like his Dad because of the name. They seem to forget that he was a 4th round draft pick and was considered a bit of a project in the first place. On a championship caliber team, I think he's a great 4th liner that can fill in on the 3rd line and even be a big body in front of the net on the PP if need be. |

Foligno also hasn't been able to have any consistency in what he's being asked to do from year to year due to the amount of coaching changes we've had. Not to mention that he's 3 years younger. |

Foligno has better hands.
Problem is I think he's a dumb player sometines. He doesn't just stick to a style of play. One minute he's a grinding 3rd line winger playing well, the next minute he's trying to dangle through players like Pavel Datsyuk.
Stick to being the 3rd liner and he might score 12-15 goals |
