Streit was like 28 years old when he first started in the league I believe, so there's hope. Granted, Medvedev is 32. As long as he can contribute some offense, get pucks out of the zone, and play competent defense, i'll be happy. - benjichronic
If he passes the puck well that will be a big improvement on the guy he's replacing.
Getting the puck out of your own zone is the best defense. - Feanor
That's true, but even the best teams have to spend significant time defending. Medvedev's puck skills, shot, and mobility all look very promising. Ultimately, he is a defenseman, and he needs to play well defensively. The Flyers will miss some of the attributes that Grossmann brought to the team, if he doesn't. Ultimately, I trust Hextall, and his decision making.

A lot will depend on how he adapts to the smaller rink/more physical game. If he can deal with that, he'll be fine. He has the skills.
The fact that he was traded at the height of his career was astonishing, in retrospect.
Not as astonishing as trading Wayne Gretzky, but still pretty crazy. - johndewar
Yeah, the Gretzky was deal was purely a salary dump on Edmonton's part. Coffey was kind of a mix. Sure, they weren't happy about paying him, but I also think they felt that they could do without his one dimensional play. Heck, FWIW, Scotty Bowman couldn't stand the way Coffey played.

Coffey was always a 4th forward who just happened to be positioned at defense. Still might be the best skater I ever saw in person.

He's certainly up there. Orr would be first on my list; after that it's a 3 way battle between Yvan Cournoyer, Paul Coffey and Pavel Bure for 2nd. - BiggE
I never saw Orr in person so I cant go there. - MBFlyerfan
He was amazing. Not only could he skate like he was shot out of a rocket, but he could turn on a dime, and do everything while going at top speed. I can't even imagine how good he could have been if he had healthy knees.

And, Dave Brown a close 6th.
Seriously - summer fun until the season gets here - the worst stakers (lets keep this to known players) and worst Flyers staker. Dave Brown needed his stick otherwise he's fall. Speaking of falling, not sure if Hartnell makes the list.

everyone at the parade was singing....one, two, three, four who the flock is Bobby Orr...

Glen Cochrane made Dave Brown look like Peggy Fleming.
Has any pitcher in MLB history ever thrown a no-hitter and then been traded before his next start? - jmatchett383
No. Two pitchers have been traded during the season in which they threw no hitters, but there's never been a pitcher traded before his next appearance after throwing a no hitter.
The two that were traded in the season they threw their no hitters are Edwin Jackson in 2010 and Cliff Chambers in 1951. Both were traded about 5 weeks after their no hitters.

Gino Odjick was pretty awful. He just looked so awkward skating.

In no particular order
Rick Foley
Can just barely remember him from when I was a tyke. He looked like John Kruk on skates, but hell, at least Kruk could actually play his sport!
Ed Van Impe
Nasty S.O.B., but slow as molasses
Willie Huber
You could time him with a sundial
Brad Marsh
All heart and a great shot blocker, but man was he slow
Dave Hoyda
Hard to really tell how slow he truly was, he was rarely on the ice for more than a few seconds before getting into a fight
Dave Brown
Thankfully, it's not necessary to skate to beat the crap out of people
Glen Cochrane
Pairing him with Mark Howe (yes they actually played together for a while) was like pairing the roadrunner with Foghorn Leghorn
Michael Handzus
Zus had a lot of great attributes and skills, however skating wasn't one of them.
Keith Jones
Jonesy was so slow, that he didn't make it off the ice after his final shift until halfway through the next season
Scott Hartnell
Yeah, he's not really that bad a skater, but man, the guy goes down more than a Kardashian sister.
