If he's lucky they may find room for him in Rochester. Love that he's the hometown guy and all the stuff he does for the community here, but he's just not useful to me on the NHL roster anymore.
- HonkFortheGoose

I almost wrote about that too. Is there a limit to the amount a minor-league contract can be? I don't see him taking a pittance like I imagine those contracts are, but he's probably worth more than any other AHL contract they may have for his charitable presence.

he would be fine on the 4th line and second team pk

assuming his head is out of his ass and the contract was under 1 mil

Steve Avery might have had the best stuff in that rotaion, health was an issue though.

An AHL deal can still be a pretty decent. I was just looking to see how much Ellis signed for, but all I can find is that it's a one year deal. No $$ mentioned in any of the articles.

I think he has the capability, but I think the refs have it out for him. Plus he misses so much time every year because it's like he's made of glass or something.

Like I said, I like the guy. He does a ton for the community, but our forward ranks are already a huge log jam. I just don't see space for him on the NHL roster unless there's a bunch of injuries.

Yeah, I remembered he was always impressive, but the guy never had the ability to hang in there like Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine, etc.

That rotation was frustrating...especially as a Pirates fan.

They had some epic rotations.

There is no room in the nhl for Jon Scott, either. The Coyotes are going full tank this year.

His last contract had him at a 550k NHL salary and a 300k AHL one.

My guess is it's in the 300k-400k range.

Any team that has Scott on it has major issues.

Unless it's an NHL deal, there's nowhere to go to find that kind of info. Nobody cares about the salaries of just AHL players, especially since there's no salary cap in the AHL.

Like I said he's probably making 300k which is damn good pay.

My guess would be if they did offer Kaleta something to play in Rochester, he'd probably get somewhere around what Ellis is getting.

Injuries and the transformation of Izzy into one of the dominate closers for the better part of a decade after he left is what doomed them.

Fell asleep on the boat around 10. Drove home at 430. 5 cups of coffee later, I'm 100%.

Kaleta is STILL doing charity work as a Sabre, yet he's not a Sabre....what are the chances he gets some kind of job in the organization rather than a hockey contract?

I don't see any room for him on the team, but he's a solid person in the community for these charity drives and such, so I see the want to keep him around.

- stashu

He's one of those guys who will always call Buffalo home. He's been doing great things in the community for years. I can't imagine him not signing another NHL contract. But if no one wants him, by all means, play for the Amerks. Would be a solid PK leader there.

I think the idea of him being in Rochester is kind of intriguing. He can teach the kids how to not end up on the bad side of the refs (since he's found himself in that position far too many times) as well as teach them how important it is to be a member of the community. Could be a good fit.

On a side note, not sure if anyone else saw that he got married last weekend.
