Some things I learned today:
Bonino is the new Lack
Sutter is supposed to be gritty, but is not
Sutter wore an A in Pittsburgh
People think that Red Deer and Medicine Hat are the same place
Benning can't manage assets, but everyone on here can
Benning likes draft picks, but dumps them faster than Gillis in a Mind Room
Linden would rather be selling glasses or contacts
We don't know sht until they start playing |

This is the exact thinking that got the Leafs/Flames in trouble. It's incredibly difficult to rebuild on the fly, especially with bad asset/contract management.
I actually think Aquilini deserves more hate. - Nucker101
I won't disagree with this.
Don't forget, as I posted a few weeks ago Aquillini has fired the past 2 GM's following a missed playoff appearance ( once he had controlling interest of the team ).
In order to execute a plan you have to be around to see it through. If the directive is to try to remain competitive in the meantime then that's what you have to try to do. The Leafs are a shining example of a team that has failed, whereas Detroit is a shining example of a team that has succeeded. They're entering their 3rd corps of players without having missed the playoffs once. |

So then the Kesler trade looks even worse.... - Nucker101
It was always about that 1st round pick, everything else was just a roster fill out and you know it.
I hate to say it, but because he'd only waive to go to one team his value wasn't all that high. |

Lets be honest. The "on the fly" is not voluntary. Gillis made sure of it with these contracts you applaud him for. Who cares what party line was told to the media. Don't be a sheep. Use some common sense.

He's not being brought in to be a 2C long term. Bonino isn't a 2C neither. - golfingsince
Then why would Benning give up so much for him? That's the point that everyone doesn't understand. We'll see how the re-signing goes. I personally think Benning made a major error in this deal. |

Ferraro thinks Canucks did good and Sutter will surprise people - VANTEL
He will.
I watch Sutter all summer long here in my Arena at the Can Pro camps here in Red Deer...he has what it takes especially work ethic. I think we will all be nicely surprised. |

Hey, i'm not defending the deal. I think Benning overpaid. I don't give a rat's ass about Clendening, except that he cost us Forsling who could still turn into something. I think that by clearing space for a contending team Benning should have been compensated with a better pick, not a worse one.
I do however believe that Sutter is a slightly better hockey player. |

Now? This isnt new news. What is your deal? The Kesler trade sucked and everyone knows it. It's just you crying about the trade that resulted from your favorite player Kesler and the GM you defend screwing us.
Ok,,, one more round of how this club was destroyed by Benning trading for... then resigning Sbisa. It just keeps coming back to Sbisa being acquired and JB not being as good as Gillis at contracts.
This reminds me of how the Republicans started shouting that Obama is responsible for the mess in the middle east the minute he was in office. |

This common sense has too many moving parts obviously or he would have partly conceded rather than troll over and over about it.
We got (frank)ed by Nuckers favorite people and all he can do is rub our (frank)ing nose in it all day every (frank)ing day. Benning had 1 move and thats it. Why kick everyone while they are down about this?

Pens fans should be happy then. I will still take Sutters 2 way game every day.
The point of Linden talking to Clendenning and telling him that the deal would not have happened proves that Pens know Sutter is the better player also |

I'm not gonna say that Benning has amazed me with what he's done, I'll just wait and see. I also really liked many of MG's early moves, he just became more desperate after that Boston series.
What I have learned by being on these boards for 7-8 years is that what Canuck fans want and what's good for the team are more often than not two entirely different things. |

Sutter by all accounts is a good leader and works hard. I just have yet to see him show anything more than being a 3C. |

Don't bother. The brain trust here has already condemned the move.

To be honest that's all I expect of him. I feel Bonino's skill set puts him in a tweener position. Not good enough offensively to be a 2C, not good enough in the dot or defensively to be a 3C. |

I think Sutter is an upgrade over Bonino. Not a huge improvement but an improvement.
Clendenning we have about 15 of his type in our system. He is a dime a dozen fringe player who could not be sent down. Now we don't have to worry. Biega can come and down as we please.
The draft pick will be the 60 th for the 65 th |

In my opinion, you can't merely assess the trade on a Sutter for Bonino basis. Clendening has value in this, as does a 2nd for a 3rd. Ultimately, Benning screwed the Canucks again. Sometimes I wonder if he is employed by Vancouver, or another team like Calgary or Toronto. Does he even understand hockey?
Sutter is worse than Bonino in almost every category. Bonino is better offensively and defensively. You can't judge players on their size and their potential with a new team and different wingers. Everything in the hockey world revolves around stats these days, and the stats say Bonino is better then Sutter in all but hits and faceoff win percentage. To top it off, Bonino's cap hit is $1.4-million less than Sutter's. Is Sutter's value better when paying him more than Bonino? I think not.
Clendening was brought in and signed because he was a young, highly touted prospect with great defensive upside. Now he is gone and the Canucks received nothing in return. As for the Canucks 2nd round pick for the Penguins 3rd round pick, the pundits say that they are basically the same pick depending on the projected end of year ranks of the Ducks and Sabres. Until next season ends, we will have no idea if these picks are really equal.
Ultimately, I believe the Canucks are worse off today than yesterday. I would have preferred to keep Bonino than trade for Sutter. I also don't like giving away promising young prospects away for nothing, and taking the disadvantage on a pick swap.
The one thing Benning and the Canucks did right today, was re-signing Baertschi to a one year, 1 way, $900,000 'show me' contract. |

Perfect.
Horvat will have to take the 2nd line spot. I'm willing to live through his growing pains in the top six. I'm sure this very scared group will turn on him if he struggles though. Just take a look a round here. One year and they have already turned into a hateful mob. |

I dont see horvat on 3rd line w dorsett.
Lots of posters place prust dorsett together, why? We dont need a goon line, more a tough winger capable of creating space.

I hated MGs foolish Ballard trade, not cuz we got Ballard, but because he included Grabner instead that idiot AVs pet Raymond who I thought was a useless muck from the beginning. |

dorsett horvat and hansen were pretty effective together and it didn't matter.
Higgins can play any position including defence... lols.
i just can't see Dorsett and Prust on one line and Horvat will not be put into a 2nd line C position where he might face too much pressure...
I like Sutter as a two C with two skill guys. He brings the grit and defensive play for the two guys counted on to score.. |

This time next year this board will be complaining about Horvat. Because that's what we do. |
