That's not nearly as strong of justification as having him play ineffectively for your team. - jfkst1
No, but it's irrational hate. |

The great thing about Fehr that I don't think a lot of people are considering is that he is a natural winger. He can very well slot into the top-6 and give Malkin or Crosby a big body with nice hands to work with. He doesn't have Neal's shot, but Fehr has really nice hands for a big guy.
All you Kunitz downers could very well have your replacement in Fehr, with Bonino centering the third. - Blackstrom2
Really? I knew he played wing more than center in his career and has decent hands. But I didnt think he could skate well enough to play in the top 6 with a Sid or Geno... |

yohe's article on dk sports has fehr saying he plays winger better and bonino is stating center is better for him...
so you could see a 3rd of kuni bonino fehr after December... if kuni is still here.
but I am hoping plot is kuni's replacement.. |

I thought I saw Fehr playing with Ovi on the same line for a few games. Did they actually play on the same line for a while? |

I don't remember. Fehr has seen very little top-6 action with the Caps, despite pleas from the fans. When, or if, he ever did, it was very briefly. Probably not even the full game, and I think it was under Oates. |

Does he play LW at all though because I thought he only played C and RW? Because Kessel and Hornqvist are both RW only so there really isn't a spot. |

I'm sure one of the three can switch wings.
Never really understood the whole wingers can't switch side thing. (Iginla) Very little changes, especially for an NHL player who should be as comfortable on the backhand as much as the forehand. |

Seems like some guys are fine and others aren't. We keep hearing Kessel and Hornqvist aren't. I'm not real concerned about it though as Fehr was a guy I really wanted in a shutdown role. He'll do more for our offense if he just takes that off Crosby's plate. |

You get your rumors from accounts that need to add digits into their name because the original is already taken, do I really need to say anymore? Hell everyone knows they've been shopping Kunitz since the draft, but they've been waiting for the right kind of deal and aren't going to give him up for the sake of making a move. - ImScore71
We'll have to see what happens. As you said, there have been plenty of rumors that the Pens would trade Kunitz if they could find a better use for his space. There are also plenty of rumors Fransen is waiting for a mystery team to clear space, and the Pens have been speculated as interested.
There's at least some smoke, maybe there's a fire. Sure seems like Fehr and the Pens didn't just start talking. |
|
|
|
Still cant figure out why Vancouver couldn't just sign Fehr.
And why did the Caps let him go? Especially at only $2M. |

I forget the exact quote from the presser but JR said specifically if there's a need on defense they can move a forward. All signs point to Kunitz.
edit: as discussed earlier, I think I'd rather a Kunitz+ kind of midseason trade for a better defenseman than Franson. Maybe target someone like Ryan Ellis? Or hell, call Vancouver back and discuss Hamhuis lol. |

Fehr did indicate that he played LW some in an interview earlier today. He also did play some with Ovi and Backstrom.

Maybe the elbow injury scared them off? Some people were saying today that he might not be back fully from injury until November or December - but in an interview from today, Fehr indicated he should only miss the very start of the season if any time - his cast just came off.

Only like 12 minutes....but they had a 77% CF
I just simply dont think he can skate with Sid.
Fehr, Plot, Kunitz, and Duper are all fighting for that "board battling 3rd wheel" available winger spot in the top 6. |

It is possible Fehr didn't want to sign with a team in that kind of transition.
Or
Vancouver is really trying to play the youth movement this year....they have guys like Vey and Baertschi that have to prove themselves on the big club. They traded picks to get those guys and the mgmt needs results now. |

If Duper is back near 90-95%, I wouldn't mind giving the Duper-Sid-Kessel line a look.

If Dupuis is the same player he was last year before blood clots, he is a top 6 forward. He doesn't have the creativity to create his own offense, but he is an excellent skater, strong on the puck, and an underrated finisher. |

I guess Vancouver sees Sutter as a big piece moving forward, don't ask me why, but they are already working on getting him extended. They're about to fade off into the top 5 for the draft in the next year or so especially because the Sedin's are getting up there in age.
Bonino at absolute worst is the same as Sutter, but signed another year and also cheaper. Then they decided to give us a great prospect who will flourish in a puck moving system. Then on top of that they swap a second for our third?
Someone must have drugged Benning. Absolute head scratcher, thank god Ruth took advantage of it.
I'm guessing Fehr's surgery scared teams off, lucky for us that we don't exactly need him right away. We may get a look at Sundqvist in that time, maybe he impresses and takes a spot from someone opening up options to trade someone before the deadline. I could see Kunitz getting shipped off for a top 4 dman around the deadline. Someone will be looking for scoring help, we may be looking for D help. Hopefully we don't need any D and we can just run with what we have, then ship Kunitz in the offseason for a pick so we can extend Maatta. |

I tried warning Canucks fans that this trade was a major error but most of them see it as not too bad. They're in for a shock.

I agree that Fehr would not be good with Sid. What does everyone think of the line below for a try?:

Agreed. Even fans of other teams say that Vancouver got the better of the deal. Anyone who has seen more then 2-3 Pens games understands just how bad Sutter really is. Someone on the Chicago blog rated it as 5.5/10 for VAN and 7/10 for us. I give that deal alone a 10/10, then factor in the Fehr singing which wouldn't have happened if that deal didn't and it raises it even more.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around why Benning made that trade. |

I live in Vancouver
Even sports radio is in on it, there is so much Kool-Aid being drank here I'm worries stores will run out of sugar
Canucks should blow it up - RIGHT UP = Trade both Sedins to the same team and keep 50% of both their salaries, Take back 7 million in undesirble contracts while your at it - It wouls be like FREE SEDINS
What kind of return could they get for both Sedins at 3.5 million each for the next 3 years, while also taking back bad contracts???
Pick a team, any team
The bidding starts at their
-2016 1st
-2017 1st
-Their absolute TOP Prospect
-Young roster player
-A pending UFA they could peddle at the deadline for another pick |

It's a 0/10 for Vancouver and 11/10 for Pittsburgh. If someone did this trade in hockey's cap and posted it on here we would all claim that trade was a pipe dream. Evidently Benning was taking some hits. |
