I live in Vancouver

Even sports radio is in on it, there is so much Kool-Aid being drank here I'm worries stores will run out of sugar

Canucks should blow it up - RIGHT UP = Trade both Sedins to the same team and keep 50% of both their salaries, Take back 7 million in undesirble contracts while your at it - It wouls be like FREE SEDINS

What kind of return could they get for both Sedins at 3.5 million each for the next 3 years, while also taking back bad contracts???

Pick a team, any team

The bidding starts at their

-2016 1st
-2017 1st
-Their absolute TOP Prospect
-Young roster player
-A pending UFA they could peddle at the deadline for another pick

- TheGame316

I agree. Worst place for a NHL team to be is mediocrity. Either have a SC confender or have a bottom dweller in rebuild mode.

The sedins aren't going anywhere until their final year and that is the 2017 season. They have earned that much respect from the org. that will honour their contract and it's almost impossible to work that kind money into a deal unless it's a final year.

Thanks for that.
- Tojo.

No problem.

Which is best - most promising (forgot Perron - so many options):
Fehr-Malkin-Hornqvist
Plotnikov-Malkin-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Hornqvist
Duper-Malkin-Hornqvist
Perron-Malkin-Hornqvist

Still cant figure out why Vancouver couldn't just sign Fehr.

And why did the Caps let him go? Especially at only $2M.

- YouMeAndDupuis9

The market was unexpectedly tame this year, most of us thought Fehr would get over 3M. I think just about everyone ended up with less. Beagle probably seemed like a much cheaper alternative at the time. The Caps spent their money getting Williams and Oshie instead.

For VAN, he probably just didn't want to sign there. It's not an attractive situation at the moment.

I'm just glad GMJR found a way again to take advantage of the market. That's a great contract for Fehr.

My best guess:
Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Kessel
Fehr-Bonino-Dupuis
Plotnikov-Sundqvist/Wilson-Bennett

Just due to language I'm guessing it's Plotnikov. English supposedly isn't great so much easier to communicate with Malkin. Too bad, cause I'd prefer him and Hornqvist on separate lines.

With our new found forward depth I've tempered my expectations on Plotnikov

I don't think the minutes will be there for him, and no PP time either

If they play him without Malkin, I'd like to see a Plotnikov-Fehr-Dupuis 3rd line.

Man there are so many possibilities to try.

If I were Vancouver I would dump both Sedin's. Start the rebuild now, in those three years you will still only have mediocre hockey with no real chance at all for the Cup. Get the most you can out of the twins before they're worthless. They'll have to rebuild when those two are gone, wasting prime years of Horvat etc.

But then again their GM is Benning.

It's a 0/10 for Vancouver and 11/10 for Pittsburgh. If someone did this trade in hockey's cap and posted it on here we would all claim that trade was a pipe dream. Evidently Benning was taking some hits.

Could you imagine the shade we would have thrown on someone that posted that trade idea?!

Sedins are mentors for Horvat Virtanen and Baertschi. They will stay for that reason almost alone. Try again in two years.

Columbus is my second favorite team, and holy (frank) they would be scary. They have the pieces already in place, that would just make them that much scarier

They don't really need those two firsts as they have a lot of young talent, but I don't think they would deal Werenski. Too big of a piece moving forward. I'd say Rychel would take his place.

The conversation though most likely starts at Murray. Don't see CBJ moving any D as that's what they really need. Murray is CBJs Pouliot.

The more I look at it, I don't think it's a fit. They are pretty set on offense for the most part, D is where they need to upgrade.

Well after reading the Nucks report of the trade, sees the event slightly different from others.

Now as it's been mentioned a few times, fans say their goodbyes bluntly & their welcomes with large smiles & expectation. Also mentioned is the part where the team that gets the best player wins the trade.

It is what it is I suppose, & for the cap space everyone here agrees that's a win, signing Fehr is hopefully a win, getting a D prospect for free is a win & traded up a few spots also beneficial. So even if Bonino doesn't score 20 & is as soft as a brown banana (which will make him the next one), if you listen to the Nucks fans, it appears today has been a productive one. So with or without the best player now in a Pens uniform .

Interesting point made by a Nucks fan saying Benning was the force behind the trade, & Willie knows Sutter very well & has coached him before. Now does he know something all us experts don't???

Once Vancouverites see Sutter cough up the puck like hair balls at a cat convention, they will put down their joints of weed and come to their senses.

I think they are looking at his goal totals & PKing. Even with those 'disgraceful' advanced stats he scored 21 goals??? I think someone was on the Nucks site trying to convince them how bad Sutter is due to his stats - bad PKer was thrown in to the argument. How many SHG did he score, & I felt pretty confident when he was on the ice - what do the analytical crowd say about possession being the best form of defence?

Willie coached him before & knows him well - that's what is apparently reported, so maybe he has a plan, a better one than Sutter had here if there even was a plan for him. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that we have 3 players for 1 & hopefully those 3 can provide what Sutter did & more. But remember (I've seen it said on here as well), players that get traded by teams are usually traded for a reason - Bonino 3rd team in 2 years, Clendenning 2nd in 2 (I think or maybe 3). If Bonino's stats are so great why has he been traded by a serious contender & a playoff team?

So my expectations are tempered & I really have little faith in the Analytics that are being thrown around as indisputable proof - just like Victors reasons last night in our little discussion.

But am I excited about this team - our team, that was never in our wildest dreams possible - bloody oath!

Looks like Lovejob is on the outer - completely brushed on the Pens web site report on the days trades & purchases. D spots will be Tanger, Maatta, Cole & Scuds (yes it's confirmed until he is traded tomorrow ), & the remaining spots up for grabs between Pouliot, Dumo, Erixon & Clendening!

Going to laugh like hell if Sutter finally gets a chance to play a full game and puts up 50+ points. He was a 20 goal scorer on the Canes in his first full season, and always said he wants the opportunity to do more in a system.

That doesn't really concern us anymore - & I hope he has success there. Looks like they are backing him so he'll have more opportunity. The 1 thing that was evident last year was when he played bigger minutes he suffered. So hopefully he has learnt a bit from that. The trade has really opened up an opportunity for us though so that's what counts when you're wearing the 'Vegas' Gold!

Even if you're a Sutter supporter it's hard to make the case that Vancouver got the better player here. Ignoring advanced stats, two years ago Bonino scored 20 + goals and 40 + points in the same bottom 6 role as Sutter with meh line mates. This season he was played in a middle six role with awful line mates and scored one point shy of 40 points while having a down year due to poor usage. Yes, Sutter has two 20+ goal seasons on his resume, but Bonino also has one and scores more points because he is actually capable of facilitating offense for his line mates.

The reasons Bonino was traded has nothing to do with him as a player. Anaheim traded him as a package for Kesler in a no brainer move. No knock on Bonino, but when you've been missing a 2C for as long as Anaheim has and you can get Kesler for the package they did you do it. Bonino was traded by Van because Van is a poorly run organization that overvalued Sutter and was willing to shell out to get him, so JR was able to dictate the parameters of the trade.

If given consistent top 6 minutes, Sutter will probably be a perpetual 20 goal scorer. However I bet he still struggles to break 40 points due to low assist numbers.

Good for him. The team and media members loved him. Apparently he was just a genuinely good person. I hope he finds success.
As for us, he didn't bring it here. He might elsewhere but I don't see 50 poi ts, maybe 40

That last sentence is all there is too it. I'm sure Sutter will underwhelm and many Sutter apologists will claim it is due to poor line mates. Though in Sutter's defense, Vancouver won't be providing him with great ones either.

Sutter was a 2C behind Eric Staal for one season and still wasn't great by any means but it was the best he ever played in an NHL season.

He's like Staal in that regard. Just isn't a great passer. He's significantly weaker however.
