interesting that it turned out to be Jordan Staal for Dumoulin, Pouliot, Bonino, Clendening and a second. |

Shall we plan the parade now Mr. Wilson, seems like you have been drinking too much Penquin kool aid, lol
The Canucks basically traded Bonino for Sutter, and depending on what you are looking for it is a fair deal, the rest of the deal is relatively minor. Bonino for Sutter is fair but the big picture Sutter for Kesler makes the nucks look bad. That being said Kesler is a tool and most were glad to see him go but management could have gotten much more for him but then again they do not have me on their management team.
The strange thing about some trades is that initially they may look bad for one team but at the end of the year sometimes you just gotta admit , wow was I wrong about that one. I will say very good deal for Pens though as Bonino does not have a Sutter heart but he can score goals and could produce in a top six role. Good luck to both teams on this one. - flyerdude17
Where are people getting the 'Sutter heart' perception from? His name is Sutter. His play style is like that of Sam Gagne. His uncles were tough bastards from Viking, Alberta. Brandon Sutter 'willing his way to scoring goals' is 'a fable'.
Brandon Sutter is not a counterfeit version of his father's generation of Sutters; a counterfeit would be an attempt to copy a genuine thing. The Brandon Sutter reputation is a complete fabrication. |

Does that also mean we got Fehr for Orpik and Niskanen ?? |

I think Bonino will be a nice fit here. Doesn't really have the offence of a top 2 line center or the defense of a classic 3C, but since the Pens have all those bases covered they can use him to build an extra depth scoring line or bounce him around with injuries or even to wing if more scoring punch is needed somewhere. Real nice depth player. - Tojo.
taking Sutter out of this equation. Bonino is what we wanted Spaling to be and Fehr is what we wanted Winnik to be. Both cost less money. |

Some movie called Pursuit of happiness.
Just skip watching the movie and search for Amy Jo Johnson on some, errr, exotic sites |

nucks blogger did a nice job of pointing out some things that make it seem like less of a loss for the nucks.... one can spin anything
even if bonino and sutter turn out to be a wash (on ice wise) ... I feel this is likely...
the prospect the pick swap and the cap space make this a steal. - ChrisMS
I do think people are over rating Bonino here. Good offensive player who can drive possession better. But he definitely sounds like a perimeter player. Still a big win overall for the Pens because of Fehr and the other pieces and Bonino will make a nice depth piece. |

I'm not sure this is necessarily true. While Sutter may get some better wingers to play with, he will also face the opposing team's better lines. Malkin and Crosby drew the other teams best defenders and left the rest for the 3rd/4th line. - mw630
When was the last time you can remember Sutter being a great set-up guy? I don't know if I ever said "wow, that was a slick pass by Sutter". He'll get better wingers certainly, but how well he uses them will be the question.

Was at the zoo with my daughter. Just got home to see this news and I was like "WHATTTTTT?!?!" Bonino was great for Vancouver and Fehr is easily an upgrade over sutter. That Sam guy is immediately doing work. Hell yes |

Think about that, Fehr will make less than Winnik. |

Off season over? - lloyd095
Interestingly enough. JR mentioned adding another forward via Free Agency. I'm a bit confused by this considering the cap space and greater need for defense at this point. I don't see many useful forwards left in FA other than Santorelli...who we cant afford or really need. He is likely just playing the GM truth or lie game though. |

Remember when he had Dupuis and Malkin last year? How'd that work out? Not well. I'm sure he'll get great wingers in Vancouver. I look forward to seeing his contract and results in the future. |

Fehr is the part of all this I'm thrilled with. I thought his role as a 3C was a huge part of Washington' s resurgence this year and will give us a matchup center so we don't have to use Crosby in that role this year.
Wouldn't be shocked if your Spaling analogy works out and Bonino claims a top 6 or 3rd line scoring wing role. He's a nice affordable luxury. |

Right, Pittsburgh can trade one of Kunitz, Bennett, or Perron. Pittsburgh may be ready to go to war with Ian Cole as the 3. You all know how I feel about the slotting of the Penguins' defense; what kind of moves do we think the Penguins can make to add to their defense core? |

Then I'd say their analytics department is just fine even before Sam. I can't stop laughing at how great today has been for the Pens. |

I agree with you on this. That guy was saying he was going to be better not behind 87/71, I don't think that's true. The only small part Sutter that I'll miss is his ability to score the occasional pretty SHG streaking down the short side. Overall, excellent trade for the Pens. |

True. As someone pointed out on Twitter, Fehr did have pretty dang good linemates last season. These moves though are vitally important to a team like Pittsburgh. We're not shelling out over $3M x 3 years for a 34 year old Joel Ward or the raises Winnik and Comeau got.
These guys aren't super young, but outside Lovejoy, pretty much everyone JR has acquired has been under 30. |

Franson is the only one I could see the Pens making a move for and only way that is happening is if Kunitz/Perron and some of Scuderi's salary comes off the books with minimal coming back. Not sure it would help the team either. But after fleecing Toronto and now Vancouver, who knows what Rutherford has planned. |

From GMJR post trade comments it sounds like he's going to run the current D as long as he can get away with it and by the dead line we will see a deal for a legitiment top 4 D to solidify the D for the stretch and playoffs. |

Trading Bennett or Perron is counter productive (unless Bennett is a part of a bigger deal that lands a big name).
Freeing up Kunitz or Scuderi's cap...who would you guys pick out of the remaining players:

I honestly like that approach. See what develops for injuries and player progression and decide at the deadline. With this forward lineup they have now, I really don't see them at threat of missing the postseason. |

That's was a great 3rd line. I don't think enough has been made over Washington losing that. But Fehr and Dupuis would be a great start to a shutdown line as well. |
