We were very nice to Corey. He just disappeared in the dog days of summer. Probably because he is fixated on the cat in the tree........

We're kind by comparison to some of the other team threads.

It takes a level of commitment that some may not realize when they get into it.

And others (Randall, Chip, Jeff) are just tools.

Any thoughts on that??

I respected SaIvador during his time with the BIues. I know he is oId and a Iot of what i have read it seems to point to DeviIs fans not Iikikng him very much.

I met him one time. He's a very quiet guy. He didn't smile much. Though, it was at a bar after a game. Him and Chase were doing a meet and greet.

He seemed shy. Sometimes that comes off as aloof...

I always liked him. Thought he did his job well. Devils didn't get to see the best of him because of concussion problems but he was a fine player.

Remember not really wanting to part with him when he and Jackman were both pending free agents at the same time and the fact that they sent him packing for that circus monkey was just abysmal.

Devils fans likely think of Salvador like Blues fans did of Jackman. There are definitely similarities there.

My initial reaction was that they were used to Captains with bigger personalities. Dare I say that Salvador was the Devils' version of Eric Brewer?!

I think that's a fair comparison. With the exception of [Jansen != Pronger].

I liked Salvador but with the new NHL he was no lnger effective. I was glad when they moved him. He just could not move the puck up the ice what so ever. would get hemmed into his own zone. i think he also caused problems for erik johnson's development.

poor bryce. imagine that happening at a crappy paying jb and you never get to see that military doctor. no one telling you what is wrong. having to gut through sixteen more months of a deployment.

and i have friends who had it, have it far worse. twenty year old kids using walkers to get around or they could just fall over and smack their faces into the pavement. m

i think it is great he over came something and all but my god it is just hockey. the tone of that story just bothers me. i stopped reading it before the end.

he wantd his kids to remember him as a hockey player. he risked his well being and ability to care for his children for that? that does not seem selfish at all.

I understand your point. The reason that I enjoyed reading it was because it's an insight into the minds of probably 90% or more professional hockey players. Are they pampered? Yes. Is there a professional athlete that isn't pampered? Probably not.

I also found it interesting from a cultural perspective because this is the type of mindset that the league promotes amongst it's players. The "play through it" mentality.

This is exactly why concussions are so dangerous.

Except he was never expected to be or replace a #1 d man. The external personality comparison is good. I bet you would get a much different opinion of Brewer and Salvador's personalities from their teammates.

We were definitely nice to Corey, he obviously navigated himself into a black hole or something. Could have happened to anyone.
