my desktop is letting me have it too and that's pre-windows 8.

so i guess it's just an all around goodwill gesture as an apology for putting anyone at all through 8.

You have to have Windows 7 or Windows 8 installed currently - make sure apply all the latest updates (including service packs). Check your system tray (how noob are you btw - I'll be more descriptive if need be)

OK assuming you havent moved your Windows Task Bar - on the bottom right corner of your screen is the system tray. There should be a Windows icon. (Did you apply ALL updates including Service Pack 1 specifically foor Windows 7?)

apparently in the 90s, with the foresight microsoft is famous for, a bunch of things in the code were named 9x, for the different versions of windows... so following the naming convention they're using now would cause conflicts... or something.

So they skipped it and went to 10.
