I didn't realize Clendening was still on a two way contract, which is awesome. We won't risk waivers on him this season. Erixon is not though, so what are the chances he is sent down compared to a Scuderi move?

I think it would take a minor miracle to move Scuderi but after the Sutter trade, who knows what is possible?

Hoff, Lapierre
- usethe1-2-2

True, Hoff was supposed to be a great luxury though and I had no problem with the signing.

Lap doesn't really count imo. It was a hail mary to get better production out of the 4c for the cost of our terrible 4c. Trade didn't work out for either side. I would have rather made a call up than use either one of those two though

I threw this around a little yesterday

Scuderi + ANA 2nd for NJ's 4th

They eat his full deal. We basically got that pick for free if you think about it. That third we traded was from compensation.

Basically we trade Scuds for a 4th, which is way better than what everyone has been praying for which was dumping Scuds + prospect or 4th for a 7th

I wonder about Ryan Clowe's status. If he isn't projected to play again, maybe NJD would trade him straight up for salary relief.

Ray Shero is the GM and Uncle Lou isn't there to make the 'you're dead meat' gesture from across the room, so I would be calling Ray like every three to five hours claiming that Adam Henrique could use a change of scenery.

i dont like the idea of trading a 2nd purely for a cap relief.

Interesting thought, totally forgot about Clowe. I feel NJ is probably our best partner to deal with.

We aren't a big enough market to eat his salary and put him on LTIR. Our ownership group would never do that.

You're right. Silly me and rest of the NHL world. I guess the good ol' eye test AND the advanced stats on Sutter are completely wrong. We just traded away a player on Crosby's skill level and we didn't even know it. Shame on Ruth for getting a good replacement that's not only much cheaper, but better suited for 3C than Sutter will ever be. Also getting the prospect and the 2nd for a third was a terrible waste of assets.

- Pens_Burgh

The rest of the NHL world is inaccurate. Most talk radio personalities, pittsburgh AND NHL network are talking up sutter.. guess those guys dont know anything. and my issue was the absolute worst statement. he is far from that. I loce the trade if you had continued reading my post...

So Plotnikov is going to be wearing #61. Now he, Malkin and Kessel HAVE to be on the same line. 61,71,81. It's an OCD sufferers dream. What are we going to call this line? The crazy ones?

There is no such thing as clutch in sports. No money players, no big game goalies. If there was, Sutter wouldn't qualify because Dan Boyle doesn't knock a clutch player off the puck in an elimination game.

I find it fantastically interesting to hear the perception of Sutter post-trade. The name implies 'grit'. 'Character'. I heard someone actually say that Sutter 'willed his way' to scoring those 21 goals. "Give a man a reputation as an early riser and he can sleep till noon", Twain said.

danny briere, chris drury, st. louis, etc might disagree with that. there are players that step up in big games... something the analytics crown cant graph so its denigrated.

it would have to be a salary for salary trade, or close. I threw out bickel for scuds as an example. He can choose 6 teams to go to.... so pick six contenders and find a bad contract and try to make it happen.
chicago-bickel
LA- no more richards... dunno
NY- glass
I am stumped actually

ps... chances of scuds waiving for NJ... slim to none

I don't think his contract NTC terms have been released so it's complete speculation on where he could go. Maybe he wants to stay on the EC. As far as I can tell, the money could work:

It's to sign Franson on a 1 year. Then Franson's money goes towards Maatta, BB, Plot and Perron after the season. It would be a pure win. Our D would be pretty god damn good, we'll probably compete for the Cup and we clear money after the season to retain our guys. That second may not even make the NHL ever. Hell, we may deal that pick in season for rental help!

Do it now and set the team for the whole year.

Site crashed and my big comment went poof.

Basically, that's an interesting idea but the whole point of moving Scuds is to clear room for Franson on a 1 yr

"Clutch" is a way of saying "the situation matters because the players are human".

In baseball the math deals with the approach to the at-bat versus the pressure of the game. I think in hockey the approach to the game matters a great deal; the players with really well-maintained routines (Belfour, Lidstrom, Gonchar, Roy, Nieuwendyk) no matter the circumstances had a very positive effect on their performance and their team's morale. That it seems like every other game to some while their teammates and the competition is panicked and nervous allows for these players to maintain their relative scoring or save percentages.

Only thing I can think of is why is 6 afraid of 7? Cuz 7, 8, 9 but that literally would make no sense

with briere retiring they did a peice on him on nhl network... he had about a point per game in the playoffs... coincidence> Training/rourtines? Some players come up big in more important games than other players. Luck? maybe. but Hockey is a game of luck as well as averages.

Im prety sure its six teams... I dont know if he has to give them up immediately or upon the team asking for them. If I'm scuds, I give six teams with no cap space. so a salary for salary deal is most likely nessessary. If the pens could find a winger who could slot bottom 6 with 1 or 2 years left on a bad deal I would trade scuds... rely on young d men. especiaslly now with clendening added to mix
